Hi folks,
I drove 40 miles through an incredibly heavy thunderstorm last night. Halfway home the alternator/charging light started flickering. By the time I got back it was fully on. Also, just before I got back the idle speed went way up. I don't have a counter but I reckon the idle speed must now be at least 2krpm.
I drove the car this pm and the alternator light is still on solid. It's still doing the revving as well. :down:
I had a look at the alternator. I can't see everything too badly wrong - the belt seems fine and I reseated the cable clip - no change. There seems to be a disconnected cable, though, and I wondered if that could have anything to do with it? I've looked in the Haynes but it essentially just says "when refitting the alternator put everything back where it came from..." so not much help.
There's a link to a pic below - loose cable is bottom right in the picture - does anyone have any idea what the problem might be or where the cable should go??
