Aftermarket stereo and cubby box

I fitted a new stereo the other day but the metal bracket that holds the stereo and cubby box had to be removed so that the stereo fits...now the cubby box isn't secure. What is the best solution to this?

Did you have to remove the bracket to fit a cage? I didn't use a cage, just 4 screws to hold the stereo into the metal casing.

And by bracket, do you mean the one behind the dash, that sits above the stereo?
