trying to find good 12" tyres for my '87 K10

Hi, my K10 needs some new tyres. It's currently got R12 145/70 (might be 145/60 whatever was standard). I want to keep the 12" steelies but would like something wider and something that wasn't made with caravans in mind. Wondering what the widest I can go to is? Found some R12 165/60 mini tyres. will they be too wide? Thanks.

Haynes tells me 4J-12 with recommended tyres 145 SR 12 or 155 SR 12.

4j x 12 should be ok dg (Y) mine were banded from 3.5 to 6.5j x 12 iirc

'87 K10 on 12's & based in Brighton, you missed a good meet a few months ago! We could have done with another K10 turning up

yeah i've been a bit off the radar with my head down in work. defo want to get to a meet and seems silly not to as they are on my doorstep. Just tidying up a few bits on it and getting it looking decent.

So frank I like what you're saying. Been checking around on the net and most places seem to prefer a 4.5J rim for 165's but continental's South African website says 4J is the smallest for a 165 (on 13" rims tho, not sure it makes a difference). Anyway, basically I don't want to buy anything that the local ATS will refuse to fit. Alternative is to get a set of 13's from a later K10 but its all money and effort with little time avail and I feel like being stubborn on the old 12's.
