SR20DET into the K11...The Project Begins

OK today was the day...we started the project on the K11.

Everything went very smoothly in taking the 1 litre CG10DE engine and box out of the Micra.

But it was then that we realised how inaccurate our measurements had been.

We dropped the SR20DET into place (kind of) and reality kicked in.

OK here goes...

Due to the rather large arrangement of the intake manifold found on the high port cylinder head and with using the thermal spacers, the engine is somewhat difficult to position in the engine bay. We sat it as far back onto the bulkhead as possible to find that with the GT28RS turbo assy, and equal length tubular manifold we had about 1 inch to mount both the Koyo radiator, a cooling fan of some sort and large FMIC...

So we ripped out the entire dash, heater controls, heater matrix and brake lines and cut a rather large hole into the bulk head. This gave us another 4 or so inches to play with and also allowed the driveshafts to line up. We then thought to ourselves that with using the front Almera crossmember, that we would actually extend the car another 4 inches. This would therefore give us another 8 additional inches to mount the rest of the hardware.

So things to do...

1. Fabricate new bulkhead
2. Reposition heater controls and heater matrix
3. Resposition brake lines
4. Fabricate new engine mounts
5. Strip engine and replace high comp. pistons with low comp. pistons.
6. Rebuild engine
7. Fit NISMO LSD to gearbox
8. Cut out original Micra front crossmember.
9. Modify & weld Almera crossmember.
10. Mount engine & gearbox
11. Modifiy & fit driveshafts
12. Fit Almera hubs And front brake assemblies to accept Almera outer CV's
13. Replace fuel pump with Walbro HP unit.
14. Fabricate intercooler piping
15. Mount and pipe in radiator and FMIC
16. Fit boost controller & recirc. valve.
17. Modifiy bumper to accept radiator, FMIC and Almera Crossmember
18. Fit bonnet pins as original catch gets in the way!
19. Wire in GTiR ECU and Almera GTi loom into Micra harnesses.
20. Fabricate and fit entire exhaust system from turbo back.
21. Iron out bugs through tuning and remap on Greddy E-manage
22. Install ERL Aquamist Water Injection System
23. Install s**t catchers underneath seats!

Looks like the boys at Outrun Performance have there work cut out for them!

Cheers

Dave

Ill take u up one day titch, they are brilliant guys! They did my mates sr20det engine into his sunny!

I have a GTIR I might break RE my other post regarding a GA 16 transplant I think I might well have a go at doing a DET. do you think these lads at outrun might give me a bit of info?? AS far as I can see ure using Almera GTI as your donor. With regards to the wiring why not just fit the whole Almera loom I mean the body loom as well as Engien room harness as it will all fit, if youi look at CG10 DE wiring on the ecm many of the pin outs are identical to the SR20 DE ECM, the dET from my R is the same ECM loom harness connector as any SR 20 engines nissan mine just has the od extra wire for MAP sensor and for Boost control.

As I have access to a full loom id rather use that instead of messing bout.

Grafting in the SR loom to the CG isnt hard though :)

Any help required ring me at work 01942 820233 I work as a hiteq for nissan and I do electronics as my specialist field :)

regards

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK we finally got the bugger out on the road, after blowing a water pipe off the turbo just as we were leaving through the gates...

I S**T YOU NOT, THIS THING IS LETHAL!!!!!

1st & 2nd gear are competely useless on street tyres...

We had 195/60/14's on it and it lit up in 1st & 2nd gear. Change into third and all is well for about a second, then just as the power is reaching suicide point, it breaks the tyres away again...this is about 80 mph IN THE DRY!!!!

In to 4th and you hit the powerband and boom the tyres light up again...at around 110 mph...

I really need to get slicks on this thing ASAP and get it up to the strip...12's or better will be no problem at all!

And just to clear things up...

1. The MINES ECU is designed to run on 100 octane fuel on a 8.3 compression engine.

We are using 98 Optimax and approx. 9:1 compression, hence we retard the igntion timing 6 degrees to be on the safe side!

We also run it on the very rich side (off the scale rich), just to be safe as well!

This is on 12 psi boost!

We still have water injection to run and up the pressure to 18 psi!

BE AFRAID...be very AFRAID!!!!

Thanx to everyone that have helped and thanx to everyone for there support!

Come up and see the car on the 16th October (weather depending) @ Crail!

Pictures & videos to follow!

Cheers

Dave

P.S. The guy who built this car was a HITEQ for Nissan as well....Do you know him, his name is Robert Bowie (Bud)?

Very good work man - i'm heading to Glasgow on Saturday with K11_daz, so will be interested to see what its like!!

Titch :kungfu:

well done mate

about time someone did this conversion and not dreamt it!

i hope u get into the 12's if not lower as it's a ####ing machine!

see u at a 1/4 mile event next year when i'm finished with my car!!

umar

Nice one mate!!! Sounds insane, hope it all goes well and will hopefully see it in action sometime soon. :) Might hopefully inspire moer people to do it also.

I NEED TO SEE THIS WHEN CAN WE COME SEE IT? :D
i posted on MH bout it but i wan2 see this asap :D plz? if u get this for sat im sure titch n k10 daz will wana see it to thanks alot dave :D

I'm working on Saturday & Sunday!

Best thing is to come up to Crail next Sunday!

I'l even take you down the strip if you are lucky!

OK got "Little Bandit" on the rollers today and the results...

280 WHP @ 6500 rpm @ 12 psi!

Approx. 334 crank HP.

We had a slight DET. problem above 5500, mainly due to the higher comp. ratio so we backed the timing off.

NEXT...Fit the Aquamist & UP THE BOOST!

I will get the graph up as soon as I get access to a scanner!

Cheers

Dave

very nice power figure!

i suppose you have a v.long list of performance bits just to get 280whp at 12psi!?

anyhow, congrats....

lets see wot times it gets on the 1/4 mile....could get 12's with slicks easily!

btw wot rolling road did you get the power checked from, dyno dynamics?

nice work make would love to see some picks as in the middle of buildin a none turbo version. would just like to see what u have done with the gear change mech. and bits and bobs.

Good effort mate. Have fun.
