not happy :( Engine Problems.

meh really peed off i think its the headgasket gone or seals or somthing..

ive been working on the carb for the last few weeks and wanting to sort somthing better and maybe a nice inlet..

but the cars been drinking coolent and now its clear were its going..

white exhaust smoke.. and water in the oil.. the car heat gauge to max and the engine sounds really iffy and runs lumpy.. just about got it home



what you recon guys the head was already done when i got the car ...!

iirc you had the head skimmed to increase compression didnt you? and quite a bit by all accounts.

id say you head gasket has gone, how many miles have you done since it was changed?

to be honest its not a massive job to change on a k10, and you can get a complete head-set for around £20-£25, if your handy with the spanner and theres no damage to the head or block should only take a few hours to do.

cheers man yea dad was just on the phone said he knows some one that can skim it and i got it done cuz oil was mixing in the water when i got it.. and it was just done for that not compression just to clarify ,, it might not have been done good cuz a few other things were a bit iffy like missing washers and loose bolts must of been a iffy garage

anyways hope nothing else is been damaged i did run it a bit to get it home the temp gauge was like full.. and the engine sounded a bit iffy .. and lumpy running

its been drinking water slowly for a wile and now its just gone .. shame really

what about the stem seals ?

and er not too sure on miles .. its like what nearly 54k now.. and it was like 49 when it was done .. Est..

OH, I new you had it skimmed, wasnt sure of the reason.

does sound like an iffy garage to me.

if its drinking water (how much roughly a pint a day?) and theres water in the oil then its looking like the headgasket really.

the stem seals will make it burn oil, not water.

so about 5k miles, not alot really.

well all of it goes wile driving it like what 20 mile or less so its quick ..

and no its not done loads but its been standing and that before its been on the road but after the spray job its been on the road..

thirs a good chance they ripped me off they should of been ok tho my dad knew the guy from years ago and its a good garage.. but they might have just put the gasket on nad not skimmed and lied.. and also the radiator seems to be my old one painted i believe but not 100% sure..

grr and that was like what a 400 odd bill in the end

when i did my head gasket in september i got a full top end gasket set for £50 (could just use a new head gasket though) and got the head skimmed for £30 in a place that specialise in engines. Its easy peasy to change, might as well to the cam belt too as its only a few quid and will save you doing it again

what about timing belts ive seen a few around for like £7-9 is thir any ones i should avoid..

i use gates belts, there at most motor factors but i don't think any are particularly bad

gates belts if you can, alot of oem belts are gates.

or failing that the bet one they have. fai or something

might see what the one i have on is like it was replaced when i last did the head anyways.
