Newbie turbo water and vacuum line questions

Hey people, I'm in the process off trying to figure out this turbo stuff and had some newbie questions.

First is the water lines for the turbo. Do I tee off the heater hoses for a feed and return. Or is there a better place to get it from around the thermostat?

Second is the vacuum lines for the Wastegate and bov. I noticed in the back of the block a plastics fitting with two vacuum lines, can I tee off these? Or do u need to find one on the manifold?

Any help would be much aappreciated.

those 2 pipes go to the carbon canister purge valve TM, so they only see a venturi vacuum (near the throttleplate, ie, not manifold vacuum)
you can link all of your pipes to a log if you want, boostgauge/bov/fuel-reg/actuator etc (or else tee into any of those)
and the heater hoses will have no flow if the heater is turned to cold, but i have never run water cooling in any of my set-ups anyway

Cheers frank2. I think the log will be the go as I forgot about a boost gauge too.

Ok I though you had to run water lines, but after a quick Google search what do ya know.

you probably need the water lines on a scoob or whatever, if the turbo is confined in a tight corner with no airflow eh, but you are dumping a lot of exh mani heat into the rad tho.
mine has a flange ally welded to the compressor housing, and a big ally heatsink bolted to it, and that helps with the heat buildup and some intercooling effect too

That's cool. Hmmm might see how I go with out the lines. Could go an oil cooler, that should help.
You couldn't get away with non intercooled in summer here. It can get to 45 degrees :)

here,s the back of the heatsink, my compressor temp reaches 50 deg 5 mins after turning the engine off (the heat from the turbine travels across the core eh) and it reaches 30 to 40deg in heavy traffic too, but while moving its running at near enough ambient temps.
what boost level will you be running ?

Cheers that's what I'm hoping for. And yer summer. The plan for that is to run the factory jza80 supra cooler, alloy rad with thermo and get windscreen washer jets of a wreck and run them at the intercooler and radiator. So I know the engine should stay cool.

So had a mess around this arvo, first it looks like the intercooler won't fit cos it's so thick. No biggie.

And still thinking bout these water lines. Correct anything that's wrong please.

Line 1 feed: Because it's after the thermostat this would give it coolant all the time. And it's before it goes through the engine so it would be cold.

Line 2 drain: Because it goes to the lower radiator hose, so should be dumping it back into the radiator.

Or with line 2. I think that hose it where the coolant bypasses the rad when cold, so would they force against each other?

those are both outflow pipes tho surely ? (the heater feed, and the system return if the stat is closed)
if you feed the turbo from an engine outlet/downstream pipe, you will be heating the turbo core to 100deg c effectively
feeding it from the coldside from the rad would be better, but you would have no flow control without a separate pump tho

Ok cheers so much for your help. The oil and vacuum has been easy to figure out, this darn water stuff. A few of my friends have factory turbo car's skylines supras etc. And they run of the water pump. Might have to have a look at how they are set up. And get back to you on this.

no, out of the bottom of the rad TM, and most turbo cars do probably feed the turbo with heated coolant, in order to try and keep it at 100deg max (where the turbine end probably reaches 2-300)
but if you can keep the compressor end at near ambient temp, then that is preferable to maintaining the whole turbo core at a constant 100deg via the coolant eh :)

Haha yer I just got my trusty manual. Been doing a bit of googling and it is more for the turbo cool down, but also helps when the turbo's 1000 degrees. And most people tee off or just get rid off the throttle body cooling. Looks easy enough.
