New Air Filter

got myself a new air filter - cone type.

when i took off the standard air box, it was also connected to the engine (there is a small sponge on the air box that seems to filter oil?)

now that i have taken off the air box, there is there is no sponge / filter to do whatever job it was supposed to do

is it ok to run the engine without this filter? will it do any damage?

will it fail its MOT?

ok you can either do what k&n do by having a hole in the bottom of the filter base and a pipe to the breather on top of the cam cover, or you could buy a breather filter which is basically a mini air filter and bung it onto the bit on the cam cover, which will stop you getting a nice big oil splat on the bottom of youre bonnet, as for mot time i dont think it makes any odds, its just a vent to vent the hot oil vapors from the engine, hopes this helps

I was thinking of 'chopping' up the old air box, and re-connecting the bit with the 'sponge' on to where it was originally.

I recon it should be ok!
