Recommend me some decent components for up front. To amp or not amp is the question...

Considered so far:

1. Pioneer TS1785: 35w - £45
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/223.html

2. JBL: GTO-607C: 70w - £54
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4890.html

3. Infinity: Reference 6010cs: 2-90w - £70
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3829.html

4. DLS RS6 Slimline: 50-80w - £160
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dls-rs6-slimline-p-5541.html

Strongly swaying toward number 4 but will my amp do the job or blow them up?

Which amp??

I have some Genesis P69s and an Infinity: REF-7521A (2x97w) amp lying around.

Should I amp the Genesis and have non-amped components up front? Or should I sell them and use the amp on one of the above mentioned components? Don't want to buy another amp.

Feels like my front speakers arent working with all the sound at the back. I want to keep mid bass and vocal at the front.

Head Unit: Alpine 9847R - 4x45w

Thanks

Fraz.. that was just a quick question about if it was a good deal or not.. now Ive throughly confused myself about what to get / how to go about it...

If it was a big car.. like when we did Dads Sierra Cosworth then I'd know exactly what to do.. but in a small car.. I just don't know how to get a tad bass without sacrificing boot space and the front sound stage.

Cheers

I've just been told by Halfords.. that my Alpine may say it is 4x45w but it is really 4x16w RMS? Ok then... so I basically need a 2x50w RMS to run some front components but which ones... I didn't want to add a second amp but it looks like I have no choice... so much wiring... doing my head in...

So..

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-mrpt220-p-2756.html

Alpine MRP-T220: 2x50w RMS with front components?

Someone recommend me some components...

I think I am just going to go for the infinity.. the DLS would be nice but a bit dear for me...

ps. putting the Genesis in the back off the Inf. amp I have.

Yeah thats right. The head unit figures aren't RMS and isnt really capable of powering that much. If you get or have a head unit with multiple pre-outs, you can amp the fronts, rears and even a sub on seperate equipment! It may be lots of wiring but its definitly worth it :)

^you and me share the same passion for competition/reference sound! SQL with SPL. I heard the DLS last night and they was only just a bit more bass from the woofer and more detail from the tweeter compared with the Infinity - both are reference components... to me it was not so major... that I wanted the DLS so I went for the Infinity instead which also means some money left over for a decent amp.

I need a decent reference amplifier. I heard both off that Alpine mentioned about but somehow I have heard better e.g. the Blaupunkt Velocity Reference.

This is the amp I am looking at:

Its 2x100

Cheers

£100 - amp
£30 - wiring kit

I can get some blue QED speaker cable for free... and some Dynamat Xtreme...

Will two amps be ok off the battery? I know someone said before that problems only occur when you are in the 1000+ range... where you need a deep cycle battery and may be a better alternator etc. just wondering...

Thanks

Run everything off of one amp, it'll make wiring and everything else a lot easier.

I suggest you sell the Infinity amp and go for a 4-channel amp with 4awg wiring....put the money for the Infinity towards a new amp.

This is the bargain of the century:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jbl-gto754-p-4140.html?cadid=b40124dab84874f8c47deba243983470

Lots of power for not much £££

Wiring kit:

Should make both sets of speakers sing :)

Genius!!!

it should be ok for power though? This morning.. I cranked it up a little and my dash lights were dimming with the bass... power cap a good idea? Or deep cycle battery? I don't always turn it up though so it should be ok..

cheers

Should be fine for power....especially for 4awg cabling. I run over 2kW and I'm fine!

Avoid power caps, they do nothing. Possibly replace the battery if you still have problems, along with the 'Big 3'

Big 3? *scratches head* cant remember but sounds familiar

Found it!!!

MIKE: Option #1 : The Magic Wires
Replace the factory ground wire between the battery and the car chassis with at least a 4-gauge cable. This will help minimize voltage drops caused by high resistance in the stock cable. Also replace the stock charging wire between the battery and the alternator with at least a 4-gauge cable. If the alternator has a chassis ground cable, upgrade that wire too. This is relatively inexpensive and should be done for every system 500 watts or higher in total amplifier power.

How much do these wires cost then?

Sweet!

You can buy some from Maplin (you buy it 25cm at a time, so get 1.5m or so), or your local ice shop, or CAD (where you get the amp) does it in lengths :). Then just buy some ring terminals to go with it :).

Shouldnt cost over £10

Ok I sold the amp and I got a good price so... I ended up buying this:

http://www.blaupunkt.com/uk/7607792110_main.asp

Blaupunkt VA 4100

it sounds quite powerful... and the music seems to have a fully body... clarity as well as bass... where the notes hit but don't ruin the detail... I know its not a reference amplifier but it sounds pretty good to me...

but I wonder if my alterntor would be up to the job... is it 30 or 40 amps?

correct me if I'm wrong but: 4x100 = 400/12v X 1.2 = 40 amps?? and its not like it will use the full 100w per channel will it??

I'm glad its 4/3/2 as it leaves me room to upgrade etc.

Cheers

brought cable from Maplin - hoping to do that over the weekend.

The alternator is fine, leave it!

The alternator is 65amps :)

You'll never actually reach 4 x 100wrms, that's when the amp is tested with a 1khz 0dB sine wave at a particular voltage.

Actual output will be much less than this.

Like I said, I'm running over 2kW with an uprated battery/big 3 and its all fine.

Corr blimey this 4awg cable is THICK!!! woahh... baby snake..

where shall I mount these component cross-over boxes?

I would under the glove box but I have my central locking kit there... I think some guy off her glued his to a piece of MDF and put them above the driver pedals (under the steering)..

thank you

Where are you putting the amp? They could go near the amp if you wanted, then just run more speaker wire!

You can always mount them within the doors.

The amp is going in the boot its huge! 490mm x 300mm x 60mm
So I've decided to follow suit and make a false floor... they could go there...

in the doors as in, inside the door? would it not hit the window?? and damp might get to them?
