Micra K11 Key Not recognised

The car was parked at a supermarket.
Would not start after 1 hour being parked there.
It would not recognise the key.
The yellow/orange light keeps flashing - I think this indicates that the immobiliser does not recognise the key.

Tried disconnecting and reconnecting battery. That does not help.

Also took the cover off at the steering column to check for loose connections.

Has anybody here had this problem.

Any pointers would be appreciated. Also what parts need replacing and is it an expensive job if it has to go to a main dealer (shudder!!!)
Can the work be done other than at a non Nissan dealership

are ur carpets wet under the dash? cos i once had a leak into the cabin fan inlet, leaked across & down onto my nats ecu which shorted the board and triggered the nats to flash. drying the ecu sorted it

i believe nats 1 was what my 95 super s had danny (2 button fob, with the nats inside a separate box, and easily bypassed)
then there,s nats 2 with 4 wires on the ariel, and nats 5? with 7 wires iirc (with nats inside the ecu)

Thks Frank.

The second generation K11 was built from 1992 to 2003.
With minor changes in 1996.
Facelifted in 1998 when they had power steering as standard.
This is per wikipedia.
This does not tell me what version of NATS
but may jog somebody's memory.

Just come back from the car, where it was parked overnight.
Will have a look at it later on.

The ariel/transponder is where the ignition key goes.
There is a dark colour ring round the ignition switch,
might be the transponder.

I think you dont mean the radio ariel in the roof do you?

Also somebody mentioned an ignition relay in the box next to the battery tray. Are these worth checking out with a substitute?

Yeah, it cranks ok.

Have not tried the fuel drop yet.

But I,m fairly sure that the immobiliser is not recognising the key
- as all the time, Check Engine Light is flashing

I,ll have a look at the black box tomorrow.

Do you think a Micra experienced locksmith can reprogramme or find fault if he has mobile equipment? Just that one is offering to come out for call out charge! What do you think Frank?

superls had his re-programmed by a mobile keysmith iirc danny, but the problem can return i believe.
if so, options are, maybe another transponder and reprogram, or one of Ed,s (fusion) £150 doctored ecu,s, or a pre-nats ecu and loom

That does not sound too bad. Sounds do-able.

I hope the transponder reprogram works.
And if its the transponder,
for the next time
would Nissan sell you the part(s)
Whats the damage likely to be?

I am going to look at it tomorrow morning.
If you got a 4W one to sell, do let me know.

What are the important bits to get from the scrap yard - the transponder ring, connectors etc and any other bits

Should I pick up a spare ignition relay.
Anybody got any pics of the transponder to see?

Thanks Frank.
the wires to count are they from the black box when I look at it tomorrow. What year is this car?
The ring round the ignition and
the blue sponge covered connector looks familiar from yesterday.

"scrapyard eh, is yours the 4 wire one danny ?

@Frank2

yEAH Frank, Mines a 4 wire immobiliser Part number 28590 C9915 made by Siemens.

Apart from Micra K11 Feb 1998, this part number is used on many other Nissan also.

For example Primera GA16DE and SR20DE. From 9/94 to 4/95.
I think it means Sep 1994 to Apr 1995 on that model.

I will try and post a picture of the unit in a new thread

pictures are here.

Unfortunately, the scrapees unit is different.

The plug unit at the end of the immobiliser is not like shown in my picture.

So will be getting a different unit tomorrow.

Danny

As a side interest, the ignition lock barrel assembly is bolted on with two bolts. Does anybody know what fastener is used - I dont have a tool for opening this bolt! It looks completely flat and round - as if the bolt had been tightened up and then sheared off. Both of them.

Update...

The car is working for now.

But its not much better because although the engine starts,
the key has to be pretty close to antenna ring to detect the key code.

Not like before - just insert the key and drive off.

Have also tried a scrappies antenna immobiliser!
This would not recode for some reason.

Would like to hear from others if they have experienced this. This would indicate that its the antenna immobiliser thats faulty and a brand new unit may sort this problem.

Will just try it for a few days to see how it pans out.
