Metal filings in engine oil

Just changed engine oil this morning and discovered a small quantity of metal filings (very thin stands and small) in the oil tray after draining the sump. She's a K2 with 73,000 miles on the clock. Anyone got any ideas or is this normal? Also, there's been a little bit of imulsified oil in the oil filler cap.... just a smidgen.... maybe due to weather turning extremely cold and wet up here in Scotland? Don't think that my opening the cap to keep checking over the past couple of months is helping. No power loss etc.HELP!!!!! Any feedback greatly apprciated.

The stuff under the cap could be as simple as the seal on it isn't sealing correctly, you would soon know if it was more serious. A for the filings, sounds a little odd, you will get some wear in the engine that could cause these, what oil have you been using and how long since the last oil change?

the small pieces if metal is not a good thing really, water might be getting into the engine somewhere thinning the oil and causing the big end and main bearings to wear unless youve been running it with hardly any oil in it or using the wrong type of oil
