limits on car modifcation

I agree, I've always said cars should be like bikes, you should be limited to how much power you can have for the first 2 years

Yeah I just heard this on Newsbeat, I thought it was a load of rubbish! They actually said on Newsbeat they were concerned about the number of people fitting Nitrous - how many people actually have nitrous on their cars?! Once again it's the majority ruining it for the minority.

I bet they don't complain about the rich 17 year olds whose daddy's bought them a brand new (standard) Evo / M3 / 330i and then smashed it into a brick wall!

I don't think it would make a jot of difference whether they had any modifications or not. When someone passes a test they can drive whatever car they want and at the end of the day it's all about the driver. If people want to try and kill themselves with a high powered vehicle then so be it but get some sort of training first, most drivers don't know how to control a skid......experiance is the key as a piece of paper means nothing.

if the Car test was as difficult as the Bike test there'd be less people taking it, as it stands it's a joke.

This would be so difficult to enforce i mean modified or not, a 1.0 will still do 90mph, so does it make much difference what you do to you car? As long as it passes an MOT then it should be safe enough to be on the roads. Anyone can crash a car, modified or not.

for a start people shouldnt be using nitrous on the roads anyway (witch i presumme most people dont...) and who has it fitted to there car? lol its one of the rare'est mods people do!

IMO its not the power of the car its in-experiance with young drivers...i know more people who have crashed when going around corners! or setting off lol.

why carnt they just make insurance for younger drivers more expensive on anything over a 1.3?, or that they are only allowed a 1.3 or under for the first 3years?

the governt really annoy me man, they try and change the speed limits, and now there trying to stop us making the cars faster (good point by james) theres a few rich boys about my place that daddy just got them a new evo ect, im just waiting for the day its in a field. The thing I think they shold concentrate on is actually teaching people how to drive REALISTICALLY and controll cars!

In switserland I think, 6 hours of the driving lessons is spent on a skid pan learning how to controll the car when you loose control. And we get what? an emergency stop that teaches you nothing, i never even got told about gear breaking which can double your breaking power and makes you way less likley to skid.
Anyway as I was saying, they should really thinkabout what they teach new drivers, they spend all the time on keeping your hands at 10 & 2, pointless, you have no experience of motorways unless you took pass plus so the new drivers dont know about lanes or how to react on the motorways, we never get told about loosing controll. Theres so much we need to be tought instead of making daft laws like this.
more teaching can make the new boy racer realise his saxo isnt a lambo and he cant take corners at 80. The quicker the fattys in london realise this the quicker they will see "young drivers" becoming better drivers.

:D

thats a lovley 2! mr2oc chap too :D

agree with olly cars like bikes should be limited for the first few years for new drivers

there is no law against using it on the roads, just as long as you dont break the speed limits.

They better not do anything, ive got too much stuff on mine now lol.

But as said anyone can crash a car...how many accidents are caused by normal cars?

...is it just me or is it more of a coincidence that this pops up a couple of days before the new F&F film comes out.?

fast and the furious should be banned. need for speed games should be banned. full stop they cause accidents by creating the boy racer attitude.

No, racing created the boy racer attitude, they should ban F1 then? I never even had a games console to play racing games on and I love to race. Before F+F came out I couldn't wait to get a car to start racing.
People will mess around in cars as long as there's another person to mess around with lol

the government are so out of touch with reality is criminal.

how many young drivers between 17 and 24 can even afford to buy a car that can safely be fitted with nitrous? what about insuring a car that can be fitted with nitrous? not te mention a decent nitrous kit costs in excess of £800.

they just dont get it.
my mate has had 5 cars in total since he passed his test.
he had a fiesta 1.25 zetec which he spun twice and hit a lamp post on different occasions, he then got a mini cooper (new one) and binned that into a curb at 50mph and wrote it off, he then got a Seat Leon Cupra R with a 275bhp stage 2 chip and tune, he blew that up doing 170mph down the motorway, he then got a £22000 honda S2000 with the sports package and he slid out around a roundabout and hit a van. he now has a Wolf tuned 300bhp Ford Focus ST3 and he wants more power from it......

can anyone guess who pays his insurance premiums? or buys the cars?

thats right... Daddy!

i had a peugeot 309 1.3 Group N rally homologation special (with all of 100bhp..lol) i slid off the road and into a curb bending the front end under. next car was a Peugeot 309 GTI 1.9 3door with full on Magnex race exhaust system including manifold, twin 40 webbers and GAZ suspension. that i rolled into a field after going around a corner on a crest and lifting off (very twitchy back end) and hitting my back wheel on a rock. i now own a micra with more mods than i can shake a stick at. but i dont crash any more. i dont loose control, i dont hit curbs.... EVER!! because i have had my experience, i have had my hands on training and learned from my mistakes. i am now a much better driver than i ever was before.

but it has nothing to do with the amount of mods on a car. its about the person driving.

Give 2 men a gun each. now logicaly both men are capable of killing each other as they both have a gun. how the hell do you know which one is the convicted murdurer and which one is a priest?

the equipments doesnt make a man. The man makes a man. and the sooner the government knows this the better.

My Micra was modified, owned it for 4 years. No problems at all.

Drove the Corsa for about a few months, totally standard, and flew off the road.

Great post Ant, i completely agree.

Cars should be banned..........back to carts and horses, that way you can get home drunk, as it's not you driving, it's the horse ;)

I thank you! LOL

political tards, now can anyone help me in getting my cars to Sweden? over there the government are not retards :D i was shocked on how sensible they are, its almost like they have....dare i say it....common sense!!!!

unlike here, i could rant all day about stupid laws... i will just rant one as an example because i found it out yesterday:

i caught a traffic warden checking out my car. i asked him if there was a problem. he said that it was parked on the yellow lines... it was only JUST on the double yellows but apparently likey are "clamping down" on this thing because obviously of all the things that need clamping down on, being 2" over the yellow line is a big issue.

but anyway, he couldn't give me a ticket because i had the car cover on my car and he is not able to take it off :D i asked: "is it ilegal to have a car cover?" and he said its not... so that is all good. but then he sad, that if someone reported my car as abandoned then the police can just come and take it away, and because they cant take the cover off they don't have to send me a letter or anything.

on top of that, the police will be reported that it is there even tho it is not breaking any laws and it is legal to have a cover, because the traffic warden cannot check that it is taxed and so has to assume that it is not. he recommended that i take my £150 tailored car cover and cut a hole in it so that the tax disk can be read....

England is a joke, honestly, do some traveling, i have been to so many places like America, Italy, France, and Sweden etc no where is as bad as this, i ask them about the laws and its incredible. like Australia, where 2.0 litre engine is considered small, and you are expected to have something that big, and petrol is 40p a litre... over here if you had a 2.0 you'd pay millions in insurance.

ok one more little rant:

just had to go and get some meds from the doctor as i have been unwell. i have no job, yet i had to pay £10 for meds... which means in the UK getting told what is wrong with you is totally free on the NHS, but getting the treatment costs money, meaning only people who can afford it will get better.... STRANGE how everything benifits people with money?????

nex, its called capitolism, it started with thatcher selling everything off in the 70's and hasnt stopped since, in fact new labour has made it worse.

the current economic state is all down to capitolism and boom and bust politics. but nobody learns as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the british public are so ssoft thet they wont do anything to stop it.

...i think its kinda funny how the government over charges for everything to make us stop driving, but then at the same time are trying to get us all to buy new cars to keep the industry going...ermm make up your mind please.

well it would all work out fine if only the people at the top were interested in the public they govern and not saving their own asses.

Good old media!

a headline that diverts attention away from the root cause.

nice to see Trevor sticking to the science and to his principles...indeed I was 'vetted' too ...lol even tho he restricted me to a 'feeble-sounding' +25bhp...the results are fantastic....and I'm always happy to present two of my favourite hobbies side by side (despite their <media-porn> conflicting stereotypes):

- Nitrous modified internal combustion vehicles
- Road safety through advanced driving & riding

If that "King" dude from the AA has been paraphrased correctly, then he is a complete T.I.T for representing the AA in such a way that makes the organisation appear to be so blinkered and uneducated
:-(...sorry

There must be something in the drinking water...:suspect:
