insurance issues

Erm well i wanna start by saying wtf. So im close to doing my driving test and im obviously looking at insurance and get this my cheapest quote is £7965 with a black box mods declared

That's why unfortunately it's becoming cheaper to get a brand new car with free insurance for you first timers. Its a shame nowadays. My first car was a Capri 1.6 and that was £341 to insure at 17. I do think there's something wrong with that quote of yours though.

It's got to be them million pound bombs just recently dropped on women and children, family's in Syria. The cost must be recuperated off of you.

Ignore that quote mate, they do that when they don't want the business, they all do it.
Shop around, and you'll be OK eventually.

Where the heck do you live??? Mine was £700, no black box although that would make it £100 cheaper, 20 years old with no NCB. Forget mods though. Not until you've got at least a years no claims bonus behind you (unless you risk it and don't declare / only upgrade to standard parts from higher end micras)

Even my 2.5 litre Subaru Outback is only £1700, seems ridiculous. I've also noticed tiny changes effect it big time. Add parents as named drivers. The difference between my mum being a teacher in private education saved £200 over public education for example. Can't imagine paying much over a grand on a 1.0 Micra, even if your 17 and live in a crap postcode.

Mine was 1300 with my mother on the insurance, (Dad made the damned thing go up and he was a taxi driver..) If you say you work as a mechanic they put it up, Hence I put mine down as a pen pusher (Sorry guys that are) and at the time it was Generally standard apart form little irreversible mods I had done, When I get 1 years ncb It goes down to about 800

Insurance seem to be a bit of a lottery these days - keep shopping around. See if there are specialist that insure young drivers. As mentioned putting mum/dad on the policy can help bring it down too. I feel over laughing when I was quoted £5k to insure my wife's lad on my over car as a learner (before we got the Micra that was) and it would go up when he passed his test - seems learners are less of a risk then a newly passed driver....

On my stock 1994, 1.3 CVT, a +40 driver with a clean licence. I had to bat direct line down to £280 and that was driving a hard bargain!

Don't forget we had a flood year. Don't believe this bollecks the Government are underwriting the insurance claims!

My insurance company from last year quoted me 2800 for this year, 1k More then last year, With a black box, I got one with another insurer for 800 Without a black box, keep shopping around, ringing them up works well.

Out of curiosity, what does it mean to have it insured with/without a "black box"? Is it a device installed to your car that tracks stuff like on planes? That just sounds weird to me lol as we don't have anything like that here.. Also your prices are absolutely massive, how can anyone pay for their insurance there?!

The insurance industry also foots loads of a collisons against of load of non insured foreigners.
Why direct line says this as part of their advert, because it is happening quite a bit.
Most all they do is purchase a car then go straight out on the road. Why in London you see such ****e driving!

It's also called being a "Young driver" bu****it, I've just had to buy a new bumper for mine after someones put a chuffing great big scrape down one side of my bumper, that's another reason, People can't f**king drive over here..

Many just don't understand road law. I was driving through Tottenham other day & this person walking on a zebra crossing. The driver foreign just drove through. You could see the driver just just didn't understand the zebra crossing concept!

I've recently bought a W-Reg 998cc Micra because my Fiesta had died. All I wanted to do was swap the Car over on My insurance but they wanted "An additional premium" of £145 which is obscene. I've been driving 10yrs and told them where to go. These con merchants were charging Me £84 per month for the Fiesta, (something to do with me being a named driver for a while because I had no regular use for a Car of My own) I found out that speaking to a Human on the Phone costs more than online for some reason so I went on the Meerkat, filled in my details honestly and saved about £300. Happy Days :)

Ha, just like the Italians!! Nearly got myself knocked down in Rome. Some explained later that just because it's a pedestrian crossing doesn't mean you have a right to cross on it!! LoL

Probably African. Though seriously how do say Africans come over and adapt to our roads. If you get road markings out there you are lucky!

they adapt very well knowing that they paid for these roads, seeing as Africa is the richest nation on the face of earth and getting raped by every one :) isnit?

Your showing your age lol
My first car was a Cortina :)

Mine was a Morris Oxford....hell of a car.
0 to 60 3 weeks, and about half a mile to stop it.
But if you crashed into it.....you would be destroyed.....one of those real heavy girls.

My First car. 1955 Morris Minor 850cc bought for £12.50. A good runner that was older than me with three months MOT.

First insurance in 1974 for above vehicle was £75 per year. This was three weeks gross salary at £100 per month at the time. Real value inflation-adjusted value equates to approximately £1500 today, assuming average salary approximately £2250 gross per month currently.

NB; Bought a car for £12.50 and paid six times that for third party fire and theft insurance in 1974 via a broker!

Conclusion, with reference to my experience in real inflation-adjusted values, young driver insurance rates are relatively unchanged in 42 years?

A penny for your thoughts?

With inflation that penny is now £12.50p LOL
Your prices are pretty much like mine were, first car Morris Oxford (posh) £300 from local big wig garage, I was 17 (long, long time ago)
I have a faint recollection of £40 for insurance, or thereabouts.

Misty eyes time and distance accentuate the positive of good old day’s wishful thinking. Oh to be young again and happily pay three week’s salary for insurance? I wish!
