who actually has one of these? are they helpful in anyway? and are they worth it?

Yes they are very useful. occasionally frustrating (when haynes says something like 'gently pry the thing off', and it takes 2 hours of manhandling to get it off...). But I'd highly recommend it. I think I got mine of ebay for $40, really worth it.
