I was crusing at 110km/h in my 96 SLX auto. After about 100km the engine just stops--no noise, no nothing. Rolled to a stop at a convienently located turn off and it wouldn't start. The starter motor turns over, the fuel pump is working, fuses are ok, plenty of power in the battery, the belts on the engine all turn when attempting to start, but the chain that is visible from the oil filling hole does not move when trying to start.

Car was towed to Waroona, and will probably be towed to Perth on Monday to my Mechanic.

The car has done 155,000 km and was well maintained.

Let us know what you think. Winners will get bragging rights. :)

Update:

The car is now in Perth. The chain that is visible is also very loose and free to move when touched.

The mechanic thinks it will be cheaper to put in a second hand engine, rather than pull mine apart and try and fix it, so we may never know, but something has made the chain very loose...so probably a broken chain.
