Just been having a look round on youtube and was watching some group B videos.

Amazing cars and technology for their time I think. Fave has to be the 6R4.

While on the subject of rallying, Colin Mcrae has to be the most spectacular driver ever, stays about a 5 minute drive from my house too :p

Who else could do this with a car

hes a damn good driver! but having had a car in the air before a couple of times.. the technology in the suspention and the stiffnes of the chasis they have goes along way to helping! do that in a normal car it wil most likely fold in half when it lands!

group B was awsome in the day.. as much as i hate fords the RS was the daddy!! followed very closely by the audi.. you can still see these racing on hill climbes such as pikes peak ect.. Audi hold the record for that still with there quatro.. as they sprayed the corse with a chemical to hold the gravel together but that wsa then banned so no one has ever beeten it.

Speaking of Colin McRae and Group B...
On the road to the Clyde Vally park, I was cruising in the old 205Gti... I was being tailed by a blue and yellow Merto 6r4... the driver, none other than Mr. McRae!
I'd heard he stayed down that way!

My Hero!

What bit of the Clyde Valley was that at?

McRae stays in Lanark, as far as I know he has had a red/white metro which got burnt out then a white one in this pic.

At the strawberry picking bit? Just on the way to New Lanark!
It was blue and yellow ;) Black wheels just like that too... positive!
Couldn't hear it over mines though! :(

Flying Focus... Oo

I think i've done that with a focus actually!! Never again though

Heh heh! True... there's a similar hill (only tarmac) at Glenboig where I've done it in a few cars, obviously it's a private road though! :p

Alothough... maybe not to the extent of Colin McRae ^^there^^ ! I'm sure Chuck Norris has done a few jumps like that, but obviously he orbited the earth 3 times before he landed...

Is that near Sandyholm Garden Centre? Must be down the CV before you get into Lanark and up the Brae.

I have seen McRae out before driving a white Mk2 Escort out towards Cleghorn. Surprised you never heard the 6R4 either, lol.

Strawberry Fields...

RS turbo? I think that's his fave car?! Correct me if I'm wrong!

Yes, the garden centre with the fountain! :D
He wouldn't over-take me! I think he was trying to see if it was a real t16 infront of him... It was just a Dimma kit with a centre exauhst!

I was DYING for it to have a go, It was my mate Stephen who pointed out it was McRae when he took a left up a wee road...

Wish he'd followed me to ask! :(

God that's a work of art! :wow:
Hope you kissed it!
Are you doing an EMotosport course at Hamilton per chance?

-JGti

What do those courses involve, im about to start Motorsport Operations at University Central Lancashire.....also, colin Mcrae is a god, we need him back in the WRC, and Richard Burns, but obviously that cant happen.................

nope he is refering to the 500bhp 1.6 litre ford rs200...built by Reliant and tuned by tickford...

my dad used to work on them and i idolised them..

when stig blomqvist drove his 940bhp rs200 at the pikes peak hill climb to win, he said it was the scariest car hes ever been in..

they used to tune them to over 1500bhp with a 1.7......and just 1100kg's 4wd.....tuned by john hart (of cosworth and F1 fame)

but it never won...cos it was released the season after they had banned Group B

but it was still the best ever rally car ever!

the metro 6r4 was a boch job..with a cut down rover v8 to 6 cylinders.....and the dodgyest suspension setup i have ever seen..

naaah....

A small world...

I am doing a B'eng in Product Design & Motorport at Hamilton yeah.

Why?

I knew a guy that started one, one of my more trustworthy companions, Arman?
He left for a job at renault trucks... he owns a 400hp td06 Mr2! :]
We've probably passed by eachother in that hamilon car park about 100 times!
I used to drive a wee green micra, now i drive a wee red one. I also drive a blue mx-5 mk1 that you've more that likely seen?

"naaah...."? You're just saying that because you're jealous! I have a personall dislike for the metro's suspension... hydrogas. BTW, don't get any of that stuff on your hands!
Honestly though, the amount of cars that would have been over 1500hp in group B would have been fantastic but ALAS, the Metro 6r4 ruined it when it piled through a crowd of fans... *sigh*
I can see why you're so bitter antony! :(

Gone are the days when the psychopaths ruled rally!

Bring back group B! The way it always was!

Sorry, last post!

Stephen corrected me last night, it was infact white with blue and yellow details... apologies! Aparently the wheels were white on the front and black on the back too (or vice versa). His memory must be better than mines! :(

Think I know the 6R4 you are talking about now.

Recognise that name too, think he was in the year below me. Only other red Micra I have seen in the carpark is a 5 door one.

And for Craig, every course is different. Our involves looking at materials and thinks like that and working out the stress to find the most efficent way to make something. Also prepared a 205 for rallying and made a Formula Student car.

ahh right, mine dabbles in that department, then goes onto team management etc...we used to have a 205 rally car, but that belonged to a student, so now we only have formula student cars, and the NW formula ford car........

-JGti

the rs200s are the only cars in the world that scare me, just by looking at them. seen them in the british rallycross championship, theyre just so damn evil.........
