Gearbox replacement weekend

Hey Guys,

Well thanks to mickeybb, who kindly gave me a spare gearbox, we started to tear down the micra tonight to swap the gearbox over tomorrow, thought I'd post up a few pics of the damage so far:

New parts going in:
Gearbox
CV Joints
CV Boots

Micra work area and my good mate and mechanic steve!

should take you both no longer then 4 hours from start to finish. We did mine in that time and i am far from a mechanic. I can swing a spanner but not like a Pro LOL.

done and done, micra drives like a dream now! Only issue is the engine mounts have seen better days, but the gearbox feels great!

We split the old box apart, every bearing was flogged, in particular the main carrier bearing for the input shaft. There was almost a full cm of play lol, explains where the oil was coming from....

selector was also fubared... pictures below :p

Gears themselves, 1st was badly worn on one of the gears, thats what you get with 320k's I guess, rest of the gears weren't too bad

This is the worst flogged bearing, obviously you can't see the slop, but the bearing balls themselves were horribly worn, check out the pitting on the ball bearing on the right side!
