Gear linkage questions again :)

K11 1998 1 litre micra
I plan on replacing my stiff, imprecise gear linkage for a new one.
By what i can see, the linkage has only 3 points of attachment to the car.
One at the gearstick end, one to the gearbox gear selector, and one to the gearbox to act as support for the whole linkage.
Could someone confirm this is true and whether a competant DIY'er (me) would be able to carry out this job.

Would i be able to fit a new linkage without removing any of the exhaust system? I'm asking as i don't want to disturb the exhaust, it's a little bit on the rusty side
