The outer part of the lock barrel on my X-reg Micra fell apart earlier this year - I guess due to metal fatigue or something. It's the most basic trim level going so everything is mechanical. I'm going to get a new lock and barrel from a breaker, but I was wondering if anyone has had any success changing the pins on the lock so my current keys would still work? The pins part of my old lock appears to be working OK; it's just the outer casing that has broken. I'm guessing that I just have to remove the shiny part that covers up the key slot, carefully remove the pins and replace in the new lock but I'd be grateful for any pointers to make this go smoothly.
