brake rotors - uneven wear

The front rotors on my Super S are only wearing in the centres. Outer part of contact is hardly touching the pads at all, and has gone rusty. Same thing on inside and outside surfaces. The wear pattern on the pads matches the disc pattern.

Is that a problem with the callipers or anything, or will a skim and new pads fix it?

calipers are that cheap you might as well get some good second hand ones or a pulsar brake upgrade wouldn't hurt

The car still stopped OK, just the rotors and pads looked bloody awful. I took them to the brake shop & the bloke there reckoned they must be off a boat trailer! They're not, but I do spend a lot of time parked near the ocean. He says rust is harder than the parent steel of the rotors, so once it starts it wears the pads faster, but doesn't wear away itself. So the wear pattern on the pads matches the profile of the disc. He wouldn't skim them either - says they would be too hard for his bits and would stuff them. 2 new rotors and a few pads later and all appears well.
