Apexi RSM!!!

hey all just fitted an apexi RSM Rev Speed Meter to my micra and i have a question to ask.... everything on it works atm but the speed.. its not showing up and ive double checked everything with the wiring into the ECU etc but i cant seem to make it work.. The micra comes with a cable speedo to the gearbox standard but the cable is rooted and the stock speedo isnt working atm either so my question is do you think because the cable to the stock speedo is stuffed it could be affecting the RSM to read the speed?

The stock speedo has to be working in order for you to be able to get any sort of electronic signal out of it..

it goes something like gearbox -> cable -> mech. speedo (which then puts out signal) -> ecu.
