I had a Fiat Cinquecento prior to the Micra. The roof trim strips hit the bin quite early on and I welded a similar guage steel strip in to bridge the gap. No flexing issues there of course because of the weld. Do it, you've nothing to lose!

Using an oxy acetylene torch to heat springs to compress them is an old custom trick from the 50's. Didn't think anyone still did that now that it's possible to get springs made so easily.

The obvious advantage in using the oven method is even heating. Is that 100 regular or fan?

The Matiz front spring is slightly pig-tailed at it's base whereas the Micra spring is straight. This means the spring won't seat. Having just fitted Matiz struts complete with Matiz springs (I dropped the spring perches 40mm too) it goes down around 100mm.
