Yes one of the air-con pipes goes through there, the other one a bit lower down.

I've thought about doing that too. I'm pretty sure that would work.

I came across a few mobile outfits on the net yesterday that say they can code Nissan keys, whether or not they'd be any cheaper than Nissan dealers I don't know. I also saw that some of the handheld diagonstic devices can do the job too, these are much more common in none-dealer garages these...

Top two nuts 28Nm. Damper rod top nut 37Nm. Hub carrier nuts and bolts 118Nm.

I've not done this myself, but I would imagine simply removing the damper bottom bolts will allow the axle to drop enough to remove and replace the rear springs. At the front I guess you remove the strut, compress the springs and then remove whatever it is at the the top that holds the spring...

The four cylinder Volvo engine Z-cars use looks much more likely to fit a K11 than the T5 engine, still a lot of power to transmit through the front wheels though. http://www.zcars.org.uk/mini/volvo.htm
