super s J reg pulling problem?

Hi
my daughter's Nissan was losing power when going up even the smallest inclines and generally not as nippy as when first bought (4+ years ago).

The car has always been serviced and as a result of the downgrade in power she took it to be checked out.

We thought it may have been a gearbox problem as the gearstick was getting more difficult to go in and perhaps the plates were not engaging well enough to pull the car away.

As a result of going to the garage the nissan has just been fitted with a new exhaust, only part of, as apparantly the CAT section was ok.

They checked the gearbox etc and cleaned up the bearings. This has obviously improved the gearstick easing into gear, but the car performance is still not good.

When driving around town it is ok and you don't notice any problem but when on roads where you need to go up gears or on inclines then the power just drops. It feels as if you have put your foot down, changed up, then someone has put a rag or something in the exhaust which has the effect of slowing the revs and necessitiating going down gears.

Sorry but not technically minded, so best description I can come up with.

Could it be the CAT section that needs replacing, or the timing? as when she bought it the car was very quick to pull away and to pick up speed, in fact you had to keep an eye on the speedo to check you were not going over the speed limit, it was that good.

Thanks for any ideas people may have.

usually these things are annoyingly simple, have you checked the intake isnt blocked at all, maybe the choke is sticking on which will cause the car to over fuel?.
im sure someone who knows exactly what your problem is will come along.
