Nissan's Pivo concept is to make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, but was unveiled this week at the Nissan Ginzo Gallery. Designed in partnership with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, the battery-powered car's pod-like cabin can revolve 360 degrees - so you need never reverse-park again. It is able to do this thanks to electronic by-wire systems, which eliminate the need for traditional driveshafts and mechanical axles.

Its battery is a new lithium-ion design, with a much longer range between recharging than batteries used in earlier electric vehicles. Other technology showcased in the pivoting Pivo includes Nissan's new Around View monitor, with exterior cameras viewing the car's blind spots and projecting images onto screens on the inside of the A-pillars, and dash-mounted infra-red controls for the sat nav and stereo.

Nissan also reports that its gallery space features "a futuristic vegetable garden installation" and illustrations of a cartoon character called Pivo-chan, developed by Murakami.

New is a bit misleading as its purely a concept car. I very much doubt that'l ever hit a production line!

Im not sure how fast that pod thing spins round to do a reverse manovure (sp) but can you imagine how long it would take to park!!

Drive up - spin round - drive back - spin round - drive up etc etc.. be there all day. Would make you dizzy too! lol

I'm just amused that, by fluke, they've called it the slavic word for beer. Well, it's that in Polish and Russian, anyway.
