ebay or cheapish alarm? i'd say autobarn has the cheapest price and lifetime warranty...but mostly they only fit brands not theirs or don't recognize, can easily getting blamed if it didn't work. anyways autobarn clayton or chadston are both honest and decent..fitting starts at $150 but you'll have to speak to them mate.

my trick with a car alarm was to fit it under the boot area , as most people would would lift the hood quick and pull the wires off ..now a days I just lock the drivers seat headrest to the steering wheel with a cycle lock

in boot..cheap alarm maybe. but you'll still have to run multiple wires throughout the car. risking greater chance of short circuit, and if its a immobilizer...car will dead out in mid road. in the end you'll have to wire up to the same wires in the front anyway right?!? btw if you're referring to the the siren to pull the wires off, most of them now days have internal back up battery.
