Micra Automatic

Hi all.

Would anyone know realistically how painful would an Auto 1.0 Micra be to drive in rush hour etc (5 mile commute )

Thanks.

Automatics are a nice drive. You gets lot of time to think and you aren't constantly changing gear! Like anything, if you buy a twenty year old car it won't be hugely reliable and even less so for automatics of that vintage. Prone to gearbox issues in London style traffic conditions.

Unlike a Manual, automatic gearboxes require gearbox oil changes more frequently. Other than that you might find an acceleration drag where you throttle down and the car responds half a second later which may feel different from the instant response of a manually engaged gear...

We used to have a K11 1.3 auto (the sadly departed Muji - RIP :().

All I can say is if you can get a good one & it's working fine, the CVT is an excellent gearbox. It responds quickly, there is no lag as it's not a torque convertor type, so it doesn't have to drop a gear as it doesn't really have gears it's linear so you accelerate & it just goes ;). Back in the day I saw tests where it was faster then the manual. Admittedly ours was 1.3 but on the flat I reckon a 1.0 would probably be pretty brisk (hills might be a treat though :D).

CVT K11 Micra's are lovely cars & until we had to get rid of ours (after 13 years) due to autobox issues, we absolutely loved it !

In traffic they're great & 5 miles ain't very far.

I hope that helps:)

I've had a 1 litre auto, and have a 1.3 auto at the moment ........perfect commuter car - you'll love it.
Perfect for London traffic ...if I was in London ....that's the car to go for in my opinion.
just change your gearbox oil regularly and you'll be fine...... Just keep an eye on the oil, if it looks to be getting slightly dirty - then change it.....should be a clean red colour, if it looks slightly blackish change your oil.

I have a 1.3 CVT. Today I have just had to drive through Central London again.
I love my CVT. I don't think I'd ever go back to an manual car. Just pointless in London, unless you like exercising your left leg!
Tho the CVT is a great gearbox. I do resign myself that if I have major issues with the gearbox it will probably be end of the road for the Micra. Labour to get anything fixed on a specialist (non usual) Auto gearbox be much more the car worth!

That dealer has “thirteen unlucky for some “cars for sale all with magical whimsical apparent low mileages on Gumtree?

Just look out for the missing provenance service history and old MOTs paperwork audit trail history or it really could be Alice Through the Looking Glass where nothing is as it seems unwary buyer beware or repent at leisure?

Have to say I've always been very wary of 'Scumtree'

I'm a Micra K11 lover: currently I own a 1994 4door 1.1 manual, red, a black 1998 2 door 1.1 and a strange Mitsuoka Viewt bought in London which I sincerely adore. It's a 1.3 automatic. I didn't find yet where is level sump of the red oil. By the way do you recommend any brand of gearbox oil and filter? Thanks. Toni
