One of my teachers at school was killed like that...
Ironically, he was changing a flat tyre on his car when he got hit by a tyre/wheel from a truck. The police reconed that the wheel had travelled nearly 1/2mile after detatching from the truck's axle, and was doing about 60mph when it hit him then his car.
