Hub Caps... your opinions

Hi All,

Ive been looking for alloys recently and I think I might just buy some hub caps instead because...

Alloys are expensive!
Its hard to find the right sized/shape alloys
Im still inexperianced and may have the occasional brush with the kerb...

So what sort of hub caps should I look for? Or should I just clean up my Nissan ones to preserve the style? Do the steel wheels below show when you buy certain hub caps, if so, which should I avoid?

Its this kinda stuff im thinking about as I dont want it to look silly!

Thanks guys!

tbh if you keep yours eyes peeled on ebay you can get some half decent alloys from50-100 quid its worth paying the extra. if you do want hub caps though id get some standard nissan ones for the k10 as they will look the best

I have a set of K11 SR 13" 4 spoke alloys I'm not using any more... Not looking for much - make me an offer :)

175/60/13 tyres, will fit directly onto a K10 and are genuine Nissan with centre caps etc :)

Only a slight couple of nicks on them - haven't used them since August :)

Sounds great but I don't know what to offer...

Well, I can afford £50 if thats ok? Don't be offended if its way below what you'd like...

Dunno how i'd get them here from Croydon tho, we'd need a team effort lol... Suppose I could pick them up on the way to Brands Hatch in April... thats looking ahead lol :grinning:

Hehe time to bargain... How about £70? ;)

There's an MSC meet in March that i'm gonna be at, at the Pod, and I'm going to Donny in April. Always places to meet up hehe

Pics of them fitted to my old white K11... I kinda miss that car lol

Hehe Santa Pod? Much further away :grinning:

Bit tight on money hence thinking of hub caps... but I'll give you £60 cash on April 9th... on my way to seeing the BTCC :grinning: There might be an earlier opportunity....

Might have to chuck out my passengers to fit them in the car, unless they will all fit in the boot? How long does it take to get to Brands from your place? ...Thanks James!

Is there lots of tread left? I only bought a new tyre the other day lol...

I really need to phone the insurance company before all this though, if its much more then its probably not worth it... my parents don't like the idea already! :D

Okay, £60 :)

As for the lack of room, I could probably change them for you then and there if you wanted - it's only a 30 min job tops :)

Start address: Warlingham, Surrey
End address: Brands Hatch
Distance: 26.0 mi (about 50 mins)

You would practically go past my house on the way to Brands Hatch actually, I'm about 5 minutes from junction 6 on the M25.

Treadwise, from what I remember they are fine - I think a couple of them are Goodyears (I haven't seen them in about 3 months as they aren't stored at my house at the moment lol but I can find out for you :))

Insurance company should be fine about it, although I'd recommend locking wheel nuts at some point - £25ish for 4 i think, 1 on each wheel although I never fitted them to that set :wasntme:.

Let me know :)

James.

Thanks for this James.

I'll let you know what happens, and if you could PM me any details (contact number might be handy some day) then that would be useful.

I think i'd take my old wheels home for when I needed them, but im pretty sure 4 wheels would fit in the boot, certainly with the parcel shelf out.

Lemme just check something: 175/60/13 = ??/Width?/Diameter

175 is the tread width in mm
60 is the profile (its a percentage of the profile (60% of 175mm))
13 is the wheel size in inches :)

makes the driver look cheap?

I'm not sure about that one.....

It says more about the person doing the looking and thinking...in my recconing

well i wouldnt pay money for bits of plastic to go over a wheel which dosnt make it look better when for a little bit more cash you can get alloys which make the car look alot better. thats my opinion and thats what i was asked for. id rather see just steel wheels

yeah...lol

Its funny you should say that...I'm going for the 'rat car' look...and I've opted for black 14x6 JJ steels (instead of alloy)....as it turns out, I dont hink I'm goanna buy trims (for the same reasons that you have mentioned)

The only thing I'm a bit unsure about is how quick thay will wear out and corrode compared with if thay were trimmed/capped. trims will protect the nuts & studs somwhat aswell.

Maybe I can clear laquer them for longevity...or do you think that keeping them ckean will be good enough.....what do you think??

I've got some 14" k11 steeies to go on when i get some tyres. Current wheels have got 2 layers of hammerite spary paint and a layer of laquer

Mat, your steelies are damned nice for what they are...

maybe I should paint mine black like that? It might look good?

Im gonna clean the car on sunday so i'll take the hub caps off and look at the wheels. Gotta switch the drivers side ones over since the new tyre needs to be at the back, so I'll think about what I can do with a tin of paint...

Hey James still up for selling me those alloys next week?

Next sunday (9th april) im going to the BTCC so I can route via yours to pick them up, if you dont mind getting up at 9am on a sunday :grinning:

Don't worry if its a problem im sure there will be another opportunity.

Edit: Wont need to fit em, just take a quick look at them and shove them in my boot.

Matt T- your steelies look ace, so ace that when i viewed a K10 this afternoon I made sure it had those rims on underneath the hub caps!

Will probaerly give them the same treatment, like the old skool look. Do yer mind me copying? :)

knacker-dan just texterated. he said he doesnt know whether he'll be at a meet himself that day and will get back to ya.

ahh... what a waste of a perfectly good post

You can spend as much as you want on Hub caps...but they will never ever look, good as alloys...

I got some hub caps with spinners on them lol looked a tiny bit silly on ma k10 lol someone even tried to stop me to say my hub cap was about to fall off because they saw the spinner turning round lol
