Hatch Struts

Hi Guys,

The struts on my hatch (96 lx) have died and I'm wondering if its easy/possible to replace them and do they need to be nissan ones? Has anyone done this, and has anyone got any idea where i can get replacements from? I'm in Adelaide.

yeah thats an easy job, theres little metal c clips. just pop the clips out and the strut will pop right out. that don't have to be nissan any auto shop has them.

Great thanks. Any idea on the price? Sprint wanted ~$70 each for struts for a pulsar... is that really what its gonna cost me?

Take one to a Repco store to match up. The previous owner of my car did that. Got them for a good price and they lift higher then the standard Nissan ones.

3 yrs ago Autopro in Belconnen ACT got them for me for $50ea, they are genuine Monroe struts same as Nissan ones. Repco quoted $60ea but 3mm longer/shorter. I priced Nissan ones at $305ea!!!! (Are you sitting down says the Nissan guy. Ha!)

Why bother? All you're doing with that is forcing gas back into a tube with seals which obviously aren't working properly anymore.

ie: waste of time and money.

Thanks everyone, just picked up some new generic ones that are exactly the same size for $30 each from supercheap. Now the damn thing nearly takes my head off everytime I open it, and my partner struggles to close it, but its better than the alternative.
