Coolant Bypass Question

Just a quick question, going to whack my ga15 tb in within the next few days.

With the coolant bypass do I use a metal pipe that will allow coolant to keep flowing through or can i just use a (i think 3/8" is the right size) piece of metal to block it?

Alow it to flow through, I dont think blocking it would be a good idea.

FYI its also a good idea to dissabled the waxstat too (which is what gets adjusted by the coolant) by undoing the spring mechanism so that the butterfly doesnt stay constantly cracked open. It just means that for the first 5 seconds or so the idle can be quite poor untill the IAC catches up.

you can bypass with a pipe or block it off cos the TB coolant line runs parallel to the big metal coolant return pipe.

I've sealed and crimped the metal pipes on mine for a neater look

yeah after bypassing/blocking you should remove the rubbish old waxstat fast idle mechanism to allow the throttle to fully close and also clean the IACV (check the inner valve can swivel round smoothly without any grittiness) cos it basically does the same thing as the waxstat controlling various idle states

here's a guide

i wrote here bout the IACV's operation

i just used a bit of left over hose from the evap system when I cut it up, all good :)

quick question, with the ga15 throttle in now, why is my idle fluctuating so much? at first went for a few drives today about 50km then just before I get home I stop and it was going from 1000-1800 all over the place :S

you need to set the idle jp, disconnect the t/p/s yadda yadda

just posting my observation. thanks to Mike R, yep youre right about the diameter, used an 8mm copper tube about 8 inches long to connect the hoses together...

read somewhere here, some reported no effects felt after this modification... I don't know if its just me, but I definitely can notice in improvement in throttle response, a lot crispier now. I only need a small opening of the throttle to cruise 60-80...there is a bridge here I usually climb on 3rd/4th gear, amazingly rode that route today at 5th gear no problem...Haha
