I'm getting a tapping sound from the front of the engine at the moment, and the idle seems slightly poor when the lights are switched off. Could this be the valve clearances that need adjusting or the timing chain that needs replacing? Thanks.

This is my first Micra so bear with me. I know the thicker belt is the alternator belt and it uses a timing chain. Am I correct in assuming that the thinner belt is just the fan belt and serves no other major purpose?
