any hints on whats going on under the bonnet?
Put simply, a full rebuild. Brand new valves, springs, clips, retainers, collets, stem seals, gaskets, seals, bearings, water pump, cam belt & tentioner etc...
The head had a lot of machining. Fully port polished and skimmed down to raise the compression ratio, which is now at 10.0:1. The inlet manifold was also polished to match the finish of the ports. The carb i rebuilt myself with all new jets, emmultion tubes & gaskets.
The last under-bonnet task is to have a custom 4-2-1 manifold and exhaust system made from stainless steel with polyurethane mountings. But that's the last job on the list.
