Oh no I think my gearbox is whinning...literally!. Constant noise especially in 4th and 5th, like a metallic ringing and still audible if knocked out of gear and cruising at 50ish in neutral. Gearbox and gear change as smooth as ever, with no clunking, graunching or popping out of gear etc...

Further to my original post. I believe the problem maybe the alternater not putting out enough power. It looks like it is only 2 bolts fixing it to the block, 2 electrical connections and the belt. Is replacing the alternater this simple? any advice appreciated.
