Replacing CV boot or gaiter - questions

I managed to get the driveshaft out of the hub, just couldn't manage to knock the CV joint off the driveshaft. Not enough space to swing at it and get enough momentum to get it off. I think I was being a bit wet though - I might have managed it if I'd been a lot rougher

Replacing CV boot or gaiter - questions

It bugs me that I couldn't manage it without taking the driveshaft off. How high up did you have the car jacked?

    Mpg? What Do You Get?

Mine was 298 miles on 33.6 litres yesterday 8.9 miles per litre 40.3 miles per gallon (imperial) 33.5 miles per gallon (US) That was after a full service and driving a few short journeys through town/city and the rest 90 mph on motorway/A roads. * When I calculated the first time it...

    Cheaper mods?

What's the shield for on a manifold? What's it shielding? Mine's came off 2 years ago, same problem as johnsams - the manifold was cracked and replaced with one from the scrap yard. It came back from the garage without a shield

    K11 98 1.0 Pulling to the left

OK, you're showing off now. Also I think that might be illegal. I finished off the final bit of the servicing of my micra today (all done by me!). Took her for a spin and she sings like a bird. Still pulls to the left and the steering needs to be right about 2 deg to go in a straight line but...

    K11 98 1.0 Pulling to the left

ah. Like panel beating but on a larger scale? Reminds me, I've got a 3 inch long, 1/2 inch deep dent in my front offside wing, just as it goes around to the front of the car - which I was prepared to leave there forever until I found the ###### that did it, so I could rub his nose in it, but...

What's a stagger problem? I get alignment, castor and toe in/out but I've not heard of stagger

    K11 98 1.0 Pulling to the left

As in measure the rim-edge-to-door-gap on each side and comparing the lengths? Good method So is that what they do when they do it in a garage? Last time I had mine done it involved yellow sheets of metal being bolted on to the outside of the wheels. I didn't hang around to check out what...

    Stupid Question?

So where does the "Twister" fit into this, like 1998 K11, 1.0 Micra Twister (if I'm threadjacking just ignore). And what was the change in mid 1998, or sometime in 1998?

K11 and K11 workshop manual times

If it's just an excel spreadsheet that you want people to download and use there are tons of free places to place the file (fileden.com is one I use for random stuff) If you want it hosted properly I've got tons lying around and not being fully used each month, you're welcome to some of it...

K11 and K11 workshop manual times

I'd be interested. It'd help motivate me to get out there and fix stuff if I know how much I'm saving., especially when the weather's cold.

    K11 98 1.0 Pulling to the left

mine too. The result of hitting too many curbs coming off roundabouts thinking I was Nigel Mansel taking the racing line and from running over a roundabout, nearside wheel first, which blew both front tyres. Ever since then it's pulled to the left if I let the steering wheel go. Also, the...

Replacing CV boot or gaiter - questions

That's kind of you and the offer is really appreciated but I've got to either find it on my travels or make it myself (which makes it more interesting as I'll have to work out how chrome plating works) to keep it within my rules for fixing my car up (rule: If the reasons you're getting someone...

    inner CV joint?

I got a CV joint gaiter from a Blueprint ADL stockist (£8.86 I think - seemed cheap enough but that's the limit of my experience of their parts) http://www.blueprint-adl.co.uk/ is their site. If you go there, choose United Kingdom from the drop down list and put your post code in they give you...

Replacing CV boot or gaiter - questions

One for the hatch handle on the back/boot. I was planning on checking out some scrap yards for one or even making something myself or finding something else I can put on there, like a hand with middle finger extended that lights up with LED's when I get annoyed with someone driving up my arse...

Replacing CV boot or gaiter - questions

Thanks a lot for all your help people - car's fixed and MOT is passed and lots of new stuff learned. Now all I need to do is replace the other side, fix the gear box, find a new exhaust manifold cover, panel beat a dent out, give it a full service, make and fit an integrated AV/PC system with...

Replacing CV boot or gaiter - questions

OK so I managed to replace the CV boot today. I couldn't do it in situ (couldn't knock the CV joint off) and had to take the driveshaft out in the end. The joint came off easily enough after that. I've put the driveshaft back in to the transmission and hub, and connected everything back...
