I had a problem with my alternator once that lead to similar sorts of symptoms but it was also flattening the battery, so may not be what yours is doing. Easy to check just get a multimeter and see if when the car is running it putting out something like 13 - 14 volts across the battery terminals.

I've gotten a mini one off by holding the drive shaft by the inside end then smacking the back face of the Cv joint with a lump of 4x2 which worked well (it just drops off, the Haynes suggested doing it that way).

As no one seems to be fielding this question you might have to do with my less informed opinion... I saw it as for a N/A CG13 there are 2 areas of restriction the exhaust and the inlet manifold I've so far got bits to help both of these so I then moved on to what might be the next restriction...
