It was the alternator overcharging :) She's taking it back to the garage that sold it her and they are fixing it.

Yeah.. I suppose! :) What problems would it cause? I'm just looking, I guess i should get a voltage meter on the engine!

lol - not really as we've got 2 months warranty left :) he seems like a decent guy and there has been 3 months of running with no worries. Alternator seems to be pushing through so I don't think it's that.

It's not the fuse and it's not the connector. I've had the battery checked and it came back at 12.57v so that is ok. The dials work to start with and then fail at a certain rev range. The lights also get brighter when revved. The alternator seems to be ok, isn't making any noises and is...

Her car is a W reg (2000) so that would make it an F8 still?

I think it's the facelift... (W Reg) it has the silver rim around the grill, colour coded etc...

... got a call off my girlfriend this morning, turns out the instruments on her dash stopped working. She's had a battery light flickering for a few days, then the airbag one did it - these all corrected themselves but now the speedo, temp and fuel gauge stopped. She hasn't got back in it to see...

Apparently... it was a washer on the Driveshaft? According to the mechanic that is. Helen drove it back and said that she couldn't hear the noise anymore, i'll have a sit in it with the window down while she's driving and give it a good listen. Cheers for all the suggestions :)

I had a look and i couldn't see anything. I (by "I" I mean my girlfriend) decided that it would be a better option to use the warranty and bung it back in the garage so they can fix it or at least tell me what the problem is. Micra - 1 Chris - 0 I'll keep you all up to date.

Thats cool, buddy! I'll have a look into what the others have suggested. Otherwise I guess i'm going to have to admit defeat, sacrifice some man points and give it to a garage to sort :( lol. I'll keep you all posted! Any other ideas, feel free to add to my list of things to look into :)...
