My uncle's has the same problem.. and his is a 1.0. Serviced recently, all new filters (fuel, air, oil) and he says it's actually gone worse as a result. No errors on diagnostics either.

It does sound like the MAF. Quick way to check is to unplug the MAF (ok, it will idle like crap but should redline easy enough). If it runs better with the MAF unplugged, thats your culprit. If it's the same / no change, then it coul be the lambda. I don't know much about the Micra's MAF...

Hi, I changed the fuel filter on the Micra today (1.0) and noticed that next to the fuel filter is a big black cylinder type thing having 2 or 3 pipes coming from it. One of the connectors had a pipe missing, and the only pipe I found at the time that wasn't attached to anything was a pipes...

On another note, when I replaced the pads, I didn't realise they had backing plates fitted until I started doing the other side (they were attached pretty strongly!) I didn't refit those, and the new pads didn't come with any... Should they be fitted? What are they there for?

I've not tried this myself, but I know of a couple of guys who have used those 'split' cv boots, which basically means you don't have to pull anything apart.... just take the old boot off with the driveshaft still in place, fit the new one pack with grease, joint the 'split' with the glue...
