I have the same problem with my 03 auto, but you can only see it flashing in the dark, not in the daylight????
It's been on a diagnostic and no codes came up, i'm going to try the ignition trick.........
Hi Charlie, i've had the exact same problem and i have the exact same car! mine doesn't start intermittantly
Nissan said - new ignition barrel
auto locksmith said - new ignition switch
finally, took it to an auto electrician and i've found the problem is to do with the gear selector lever...
Thanks choi, i've got an auto locksmith coming on saturday as he seems to think its the ignition switch and not the barrel
Either way he's cheaper than nissan and i think i trust his opinion more than theirs lol
:)
Well any help/recommendations would be appreciated :) Main Stealers want £360 for a new barrel  I'd rather pay a local mechanic/garage than give it them lol
I've just paid £100 for a new suspension arm and tracking because my steering wheel was out (it drove straight, but the steering wheel was off to the left) that was my local garage, but they won't touch the ignition. Gutted because i bought this with plans to add alloys, new headlamps etc but...
Thanks frank, i've still got no further trying to solve this! I've seen this on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-Micra-K12-Ignition-Barrel-Door-Lock-Airbag-Key-Set-2003-2010-/200737230683?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ebcdf0f5b and i'm thinking if i put the transponder...
Put the overdrive button on for normal driving, checked my manual and it says only switch it off for towing vehicles/steep hill climbing etc. I've put mine on and got 80 miles to a quarter of a tank- about 320 to a full tank for city driving :) (sorry i don't know how to work out the mpg)
the only number i can find goes to a fax machine, if i get a used barrel with another key, does that mean i'll have to use 2 keys for the car? my original one to open it and the other one to start it? (sorry if its a stupid question, the nissan garage have scared me saying if i don't get it done...
totally agree with you Guy about city driving, Choi, are you driving with the overdrive button 'off'? This can reduce fuel economy, its best to have it on for normal driving.
i've got a 1.2 s auto 2003 and i get about the same, all city driving, doing about 60 miles to a quarter of a tank. (thats a weeks worth of driving for me lol) :)
Thanks Guy, i'm going to have a look, the most difficult thing i've ever done on a car was remove the gear selector switch on my old corsa automatic, had to take it apart and clean it, but never messed with anything electrical! :)
new problem, driving home today in the rain and the boot is unlocking itself and i get a beeping sound, i take it thats to tell me the boot is unlocked. I know this is a common probelm. Can i replace the switch myself???? or will a quick spray of WD-40 sort it out till i get into nissan on...
