All mine has is a clock and a trip, Iam guessing the higher specs have outside temp. When I changed the stereo I didn't see any extra cables in that area so I don't know about adding the extra screen in the middle. You can get universal outside temp kits on eBay, no idea if there any good mind

I fitted a pioneer in mine, The only thing I needed was a an aerial connector, from and innee to an outee. but I don't have steering wheel controls on mine. I'm guessing you'll need some form of adaptor able for it. If the stereo you got has an input for it.

When I changed the starter motor I had my Battery disconnected for a good 2/3 hours. And I've had no problems. Have you tried double checking the connections? How old is the battery?

I wouldn't panic too much, it's not needed for the mot.
