Many thanks for your very helpful replies. Due to lack of time I had car checked at short notice yesterday by my local (good garage) who diagnosed high resistance in the auxiliary earth/ground wire and replaced it which has cured the problem.
Update. Found a post from 2009 with exactly the same symptoms and checked the rear light for water/damp but no issues. So none the wiser, but do get rapid flashing on the right cluster indicator on a random basis. Any ideas?
Just bought my daughter a 2005 micra sport plus. She says that when overtaking on the motorway it kangaroos but seems ok when she switches the indicator off. Strange. I will try and test it myself but has anyone come across this. Thanks.
