Nissanubaru Micra WRX i'll explain

Seriously a hammer and dolly? Bearing in my were talking chassis legs... not made to be tampered with?

Anyway the front panel is the least of my worries... once the engine is shoehorned in I have to make an inch and half space for the crank pulley and alternator. Ive plenty of reason to whinge :) plus I said I'd planned a space frame front? Meaning it all goes and gets rebuilt around the engine :)
People think this an easy task at hand here... feel free to try yourselves then correct me ;)
No mardyness intended

Lunchtime pictured update :D
So I had to finish my gearbox mounting (still not done it yet)
Wanted to start by showing you all how thick the k10 is in places. Triple layered 1.2mm steel

20130613_115415_zpsa39547c9.jpg

Here the old wishbone mounts converted to subaru gearbox mounts. Millimetre perfect. No drilling required :D
Passenger side

20130613_131128_zps15db02ef.jpg

Drivers side done slightly differently

20130613_131204_zpsc4b1cfe3.jpg

I'll see which I prefer before making some proper tough ones later on

Next is how the driveshafts sit... cant be having this so major rework comig up

I'll stick the rest in a different post after I've eaten my scran :)

Mate wouldnt it better if you pushed the transmission further into the car so the shafts can go true the holes (or does your steering rack interfere with that)? And since your transmission is at the place where your air-warm heating thing should be (idk how to call it in english a/c?) how you gonna solve that? any pics from the inside? This is gonna be one hell of a car when it's ready :D

Those holes are for the old steering rack. I can't push it back coz I'll increase drive shaft angle. Which will severely limit the cars capabilities.
Plus I have to keep them where the wheel centre is on the k10 shell at the same time as ensuring the prop is straight and the gearstick sits in a place I can actualy use it. It can't be adjusted.
Any further forward and the engine wont go in.
Cant go forward, back or sideways.
I've made a happy compromise on it :) appreciate the interest though

There are pictures of the inside.... be up in a few mins

HOW sorry my bad, taking a closer look (and digging in my not-so-good-working-memorie) the holes are for the steering reck. I need more pictures to clearify :D sorry about that!

Well you beat me to it! So how you gonna mount you steering rack? cause I see there seems to be no room left for it or are my eyes deceiving me? Can't the gearshifter not be relocated by shortening the connectors? And how about the heater (YES that was the word I was looking for :D) doesn't it interfere with the transmission?

SO many questions!

More update :D
So.. that front mount
20130613_132629_zps5ee2ee2b.jpg

Grind clean
20130613_133455_zps42a42e99.jpg

Braved the rain and wind with the welder (it sort of worked) tacked it into place and gave it a coat of zinc oxide
20130613_135738_zps66734a81.jpg

Holes drilled for bolts
20130613_135744_zps784c64ff.jpg

Bolted up and ta dah! A front mount

Questions are good gets me thinking about the build
The steering rack has its own subframe. I'll get a picture of it. It also has the front wishbone mounts on too. So those old steering rack holes aren't needed so will be getting lopped off :D
The heater isn't something I've thought about but I'll overcome it when it runs

So how does the gearbox sit? Well a little like this...

20130613_141059_zps0f6e509b.jpg

Even the speedo drive is in place
20130613_140908_zpsee8e1346.jpg

Sits a bit lower than I'd like but like I say I've had to compromise

I'd love to but I cant :)
Chassis has to be modified anyway for the engine regardless of which way I move the box.
Its really hard to show it through pictures but there really is no other place to go without giving me a dodgy driveshaft angle.
Not to mention the wishbone front mounts are on the steering rack subframe which attaches to the gearbox and has to keep my hubs central to the arch.
Plus hanging the engine any further forward will make it handle like crap too

Its all thought about :D if anything it needs raising 5.5 inch to put the driveshafts in the correct place and not run inverse... hmmm must look into it now rather than later... thanks glen :D

So I've spent the last couple of hours with a tape measure and marker pen. Finding your axle centre is not easy when you've nothing but a shell and non extending arms.
I can raise my gearbox the 5.5inch I need. Maybe more yet depending on engine sump. So I'll do that. But not yet it requires alot more work

What I was measuring, was the rear end.
ITS WIDE. The subframe will sit at 38.75 inches. K10 Turret to turret is 37.25. Subaru strut top to top 45 inches
Chassis leg to chassis leg in that area is 33 inches. Hole centre on subframe is 36.25
The fun begins tomorrow :D 7 P's people 7 P's

Lunchtime pictured update
To be honest not a lot done but here goes
Tunnel cut
20130614_103828_zps61b50b1f.jpg

Gearbox raised 5.5inch... loadss better
20130614_113735_zps3dd14f62.jpg

More tunnel to make
20130614_113742_zps20072a6a.jpg

Hard to show in a picture but there's proper drive shaft clearance
20130614_113806_zps90a94d91.jpg

Looks alot more flush :)
20130614_113815_zpsed014c56.jpg

Engine space... still tight :p... actually its half inch either side clear and there's room for the crank pulley too. Only issue is getting the engine in.. it has to come forward and slide over the 2 inch gearbox spline in a 1 inch space. I love my projects :D
20130614_113823_zps898639d0.jpg

Now I really must build the rear first

mate, I would have post prob a reply on the previous things that I said but at the moment I'm shocked to see your work and where its getting to. The only words that do pop up in my mind is this:

"If I had a son, it would be you and I'm proud!"

To make a long story short, I just wanted to say: nice work, keep going! I'm looking forward to the mounting of the rear axle and the engine. Got some ideas worked out for the heater aswell ;)

Rear setup put it in place. Believe me it wasn't easy
20130614_140430_zps3a524c8d.jpg

Slightly wider than original
20130614_140437_zps195faef1.jpg

All lined up
20130614_140446_zps6669dd75.jpg

So time to raise it up. What a nightmare. 2 scissor jacks and a trolley jack later I got it raised in place
20130614_144935_zps298334ea.jpg

Cut more wheel well out to make room for the bolts I didn't account for
20130614_144957_zps5710c6aa.jpg

With the extra 3 inch clearance I can move it back. And raise it passed the chassis arms too leaving it intact :D
It also brings these scarily into line ( when I move it)
20130614_144942_zps28f10c99.jpg

So when the rain buggers off I'm hoping that all drops inline and that's half a headache out the way
Just the prop then :D
Then onto suspension... not looking forward to that :(

Mate this is coming along nicely!! I must say!! Subaru one of my favorite cars inside a micra, going to be one hell of a car!! Cant wait till its done!! Keeping my eye for this thing!! :D

Got to admit its moving fast. Soon come to crashing halt if I don't raise funds for missing parts :( I have no loom or ecu... slightly important

Well there's no update today yet... the weather was crap and when it cleared I couldn't be bothered. So I'll do a little aummat after my din dins

Well I went outside to tackle a little bit. Strained myself on one bolt for half hour then gave up and came in. Knew I should of stayed in. Those scooby bolts haven't been off once ever

Ppffftt update time... get ready
Not much done but it all counts and I've about 80% finished the rear today.. pics to follow

So here it was in place
20130614_145005_zps27fe8452.jpg

I then proceeded to drag it out again... back ache much. Just aswel RTLkyuubi (Ryan) was here pinching yet more parts off my apparent rare model k10
Cleaned the subframe up
20130616_150925_zps61e25dd6.jpg

And the chassis legs
20130616_150938_zpse1fe913d.jpg

Trimmed down the scooby bushes
20130616_150932_zpsabda8c15.jpg

Then I had the laborious task of shoving it back. By this time ryan had left leaving my car like this
20130616_190557_zps11c94e60.jpg

I did have the smooth bumper with no lights on. The boot release by the driver and rear wash wipe... now I have none of the above. All facelift gear
Anyways...
After a long old struggle I got this in place
20130616_154534_zps4397cf9d.jpg

And it bolted up nicely
20130616_154544_zps02422562.jpg

Now after alot of swearing, crap in my eyes and a few new cuts and bruises I got the other in

This is the angle they sit at
[IMG]
And the wheel hub is way off centre... I prefer simple fit 4 wheel drive. Mid profile 14s will be fine.. if I can get em. If not 15s and elastic bands
[IMG]http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/b518/Nissanubaru/20130616_163012_zps2fe54193.jpg
Onto the reason I cleaned the above up. I welded in place after checking it was central
20130616_173811_zps8ac2298c.jpg

This ran out

But I pushed on
[IMG]

So that's my day. Doesn't look much but it was all hard work and I'm pleased with the result (apart from the welding)
Finish mounting rear tomorrow. Send prop to be shortened in the week. Get steel. Finish making mounts up properly for everything. Then mount engine

IT WILL MAKE JAE 2013 PEOPLE. I expect to see you there
