I've been thinking that i should but something to control fuel once i have my turbo fitted but wanted to know that if i got something like one the fuel controller below would it make a difference on the stock engine without a turbo whilst i gather my parts and learn how to tune them properly?

safc,safc 1 or safc 2.

safc

safc 1

safc 2

In addition to these i am considering getting a k&n wideband kit to see the a/f ratios and an egt gauge too.

the cheapest is the safc would that really be good enough? or should i use the safc1/2 as they have more points to setup like every 500 rpm.

will be good to see your feedback

As stated previously, S-AFC is not really adequate for turbo applications as you can't map ignition, you should spend th eextra ash and get something like an emanage/dastek etc instead of losing an engine.

S_AFC will be fine for some N?A tuning though.

Of course, yes, but engine management is not an area that I would be seeking to cu corners/do as cheap as possible, only going to cost you more in the long run

i found this article on a jay car afc
http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2418/article.html

sound good by the sounds of it and will be great for my n/a car. What do you think? I like the feature where you can view the run you just done and then adjust it afterwards in view mode.

it's good alternative to the s-afc in my opinion might go for that and then search for a wideband lambda like the VEMS with egt gauge.

Also i would only be running low psi at first with s-afc like 5 psi, as all i want from the turbo is some driveability and acceleration as i am just tired of people overtaking me just becasue i drive a micra even i if am driving to the speed limit and the lights are red 20m ahead, really gets on my nerves(some people are just dumb lol)

thanks for the input guys

Good websitte that, full of useful and interesting stuff, how much are S-AFCs these days?

an s-afc is something like 80 quid if you look in the right place lot less but these are used prices.

I am thinking of using the jaycar digital fuel adjuster as it gives more points for correction but i need to know one thing does the micra ecu use closed loop at anytime? or is it always open loop?

From what I remember it is in closed loop for a fair amount of the time, the man in he know is micra_pete

actually i think the micras are open loop. The reason i say this is that a friend fitted an air fuel gauge to his micra (the crappy narrowband that show lean, rich or stoich) and the readings were steady through out the rev range from 1000 to 6000 when i revved it i.e it was always rich or lean but steady not fluctuating between rich and lean constantly.

From what i understand is that if it was closed loop it would be constantly going from rich to lean and lean to rich as the ecu adjusts but the meter never showed this behavior. Open loop uses the map in the ecu for the set values and gives those values through the range and can be adjusted.

The problem with closed loop is that the engine will work against the safc/dfa and correct the values and leav the safc/dfa redundant.

There was a gif that showed open/closed loop operation of the ECU, it was on MH, so I guess it is gone forever now, unless it is in the members' section here, I will have a look when I'm thinking straighter, hopefully petewill see the thread and comment accordingly.

o.k upon reading and doing some research i have worked out it is closed loop but i am not sure as to whether it is just on idle and open loop on full load.

I think micra_pete and Ed would be able to help out here. Come one guys need your valuable input :).

If it is closed then the jaycar digital fuel adjuster won't be of much use but i'm not sure if the s-afc still would be useable.
