I really want to stop my door cards and boot rattling, but my local car audio specialist reckons it will use a £140 Box (40sqft I think) to do it properly. Should I go for it?

Not worried about speed or I wouldn't have a sub/6x9/MDF boot ;) It's really the audio quality I'm after, but that's helluva expensive

the perfect setup for audio is a set of component speakers up front and a sub behind you, i don't really spend more than £500 on a complete system and it sounds perfect,

don't use 6x9s they are pants

I read about flashing tape? What is it and how effective is it at minimising vibration?

you won't stop the rattling with tape, you need to work out what is rattling. two serfaces hitting each other makes noise, i single surface like a door skin won't make any real noise. the sound deadening is more for preventing outside noise interupting your music

Don't use flashing tape....you need 4 layers or more to make the same difference as one layer of decent deadening. I suggest Second Skin which is a decent alternative to Dynamat Extreme (expensive). Yes it can cost a lot, but you don't need to spend 'that' much. I've deadening my front doors, and a bit of my boot (but it still rattled at JAE!), rear arches plus boot floor, etc.

Second Skin Spectrum Sludge is good, but the more messy option...

The Second Skin Deamplifer bulk pack (40sqft) is £88 if you wanted to go full on, but might be worth getting a small amount first?

Up to you really! Certainly helped my front doors.

i got all my sound deading free, its toyota stuff. got alod of them. there fitted in my roof liner, boot, doors and rear 1/4s...its so much better :)

a friend of mine got a old bed quilt ripped it open and used the cotton wool stuff out of that must admit it worked fine

I have already used a camping roll mat spray-glued to the door card to stop the waterproof lining vibrating so much. That was cheap :)

But I got myself a little bit of dynamat just for the speakers (£5 :) ) today and it has helped. But now it makes me want more... and more!! lol
