cable driven speedo

what can go wrong with a cable driven speedo ?

the cable has not snapped but the speedo is under reading since the car went over a bumpy road , nothing looks out of place or broken ?????

may of found the problem , the piece of plastie card that has the lettering on it had expanded in the heat and was catching the blunt end of the needle when it was in the 10 11 and 12 o'clock positions, loosened the mounting srews and held it flat whilst they got re tightened and also put in a extra wire strap in towards the bottom of the speedo to hold the card flat ..
