Battery removal, now car not starting, advice please?

Hello all, last week I purchased a 98 S Micra Twister 1.0 litre. This morning I removed the battery to charge it because it was struggling & of course I now cannot get it to start! The engine turns over & over but will not fire up.
There is plenty of fuel. I must of caused the problem by removing the battery because it is too much of a coincidence & am therefore thinking it is the immobiliser? Please advice how I can solve this..... thanks.

have you tried a drop of fuel down the throttlebody johnny ?

Thanks for the reply, no I have not tried that. How would I do that? Do you mean via the air intake - I remember breaking down a few a years ago & the AA guy sprayed something like easy start where the air filter lived.....

yes mate, lift the airbox lid and tip about a tablespoon in (then refit the lid)
