<p style="text-align: justify;">Possibly our favourite little track car is back again. Yasers start to the race season in 2011 didn't quite go to plan, but to refresh your memory about how the car was last season you should read the other article <a href="http://www.fusion-motorsport.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=13:customers-cars&id=50:yasers-2288-bhp-daihatsu-charade-gtt-track-car&Itemid=18">here</a>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So after being pushed off the track in 2010 and finally the standard head gasket failing on the first race in 2011 (not bad after 20 or so rounds) Yaser decide it was probably a good time to refresh the engine.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So what did he do, not a lot as it happens. OEM pistons and rods have more than proven their capability (up till now at least!) so quite simply it was a case of just rebuilding the engine, new bearings, rings, metal head gasket and also refresh the turbo (and ceramic coating whilst at it) All quite simple and not bank busting modifications. What was interesting was that the dismantled engine showed almost no signs of stress from its hard life. A testament to the strength of the engine, and its setup.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So then it came back to us. After the last session we identified that the car could do with a stronger turbo actuator. It was clearly dropping boost at the top end, so into the workshop it came and off came the old unit and replaced with a custom 1.0 bar uprated device.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Whilst we were at it, we also made some changes to the fuel pressure, and also just checked everything was as it should be - no problems there!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So onto the dyno we went:</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">So we know this is what you want to see, the power graphs. The old lower curves are last time it was on the dyno, the newer ones are the ones from this weeks mapping session:</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://www.fusion-motorsport.co.uk/images/stories/cust/yaser/250520111052-1.jpg" border="0" /><br />Flywheel power VS AFR - The car responded better to being slightly richer this time. So we left it that way. Interesting too the big pickup in top end power.</p>

As you can see the new actuator holds top end power and boost much better than before. We are now pretty much on the limits of the turbo, but obviously a larger one could cost us in terms of responsiveness which is more important on the track than power is.</p>
