what did you do to your micra today ?

I agree with you. However this article being on msn is high praise as they don't usually mention the micra. Not sure about this Auto magazine tho as others probably know it better than me.

At this micra's 18 year age and given that you can pick one up cheaper for closer to 100 to 150 quid on ebay, maybe with a little bit of work, which you can't with most, if not all of the cars you have mentioned, I would say the micra wins hands down for that age banger value wise. Plus, there are seem to be more micras around at this age than the other cars you have mentioned bar maybe the polo. Talking of which, the micra new, had far fewer breakdowns in its first 3 years of motoring than the legendary reliable polo.

We could be debate which of the the bangers you have mentioned is the best value for money at around the 18 years old but I recon the micra would be within the top three for the price.

I was forward thinking of the K11 successor potential long term reliable runabout bargain bangers now that the K11 is becoming few & far between to find in all good order/condition & disregarding the K12/13 as they are not long term viable in this category?
What other long term reliable bargain banger runabout buys are potential K11 successors in addition to those I listed?

Was experiencing intermittent leaning out whilst cruising and has started only achieving around 0.7v at full boost on the narrowband gauge I set up. Put it down to the oem fuel pump biting the dust and finally fitted my (wrong) walbro from rallynuts. Did the job. Back up to 0.9/1.0v full throttle and steady 0.5v cruising. Pulling much harder in boost and a lot smoother

fitted a iridium 3 3/4 backbox on the car
with it keeping both cats its nice, quiet on idle and abit of a deep sound in the mid range
see how it compares to my terrano resonator exhaust

Dunno, I like the picture, myself.
(How do you remove the sand and salt from under the car?)
Power washer does the trick. Will get under the car in the next few weeks and see how its doing. Rear arches are sealed and the sills will be OK for a good while yet I'm certain. It's very good underneath, it's just fuel tank straps and pipes etc that are getting a bit of surface rust.

Cars still going strong, 1800 miles boosted. Averaging 38mpg and oils dropping a litre per 1000 miles which ain't bad seeing as a lot of its whizzing out of a leaky front crank seal that I still haven't fixed from day one
I have a pipe from my cam cover vent tube going to my ventilate jam jar 'collector' and I'm only getting condensation with the teeny tiniest bit of oil vapour coming out so looks like the ringlands are holding up to half a bar of boost nicely. I've started work on a starlet intake manifold conversion so hopefully more on that soon

Had a central locking issue.

Car would lock with the drivers door lock using the key, but wouldn’t open. Locking the car would work from the passenger side only. Drivers door interior lock was overly stiff.

Removed drivers side actuator.

Found suspect component in the actuator. An arm in the assembly for the motor had popped the wrong side of a spring. The inside was full of moisture and a bit of rust, gave it clean.

Problem solved :)

Those actuators seem to let a lot of moisture in. I resealed mine after cleaning it out with a bead of silicone around the edge to stop any more water ingress.

Found a small roadside waterfall on a little gem of a backroad yeasterday

Then today I decided to underseal the arches. Only got one done as I got rained off but tomorrow is another day. Some pile of muck from in and around that fuel filler neck, especially since I power hose the underneath every week.

Just wondering, are there parts of the underneath you avoid while power hosing? Nice backroad, is it in the west?
I just vaguely spray up and down underneath. Try not to hit the exhaust or cats too much and cool it down and I only spray the rear half, not into the engine bay. Coast road that goes to roundstone, class place

Used Meredith to the best of her abilies and cleared out the garage.

Turns out you can fit a fridge freezer in a Micra quite happily you just can't see to your left while driving oops

Thankfully the tip is only a 10 minute drive across town
I followed a March there though! I pulled up at the lights behind it and would have got a photo, but I was driving
Don't know if it was a JDM import, or just a parts swap. If you live in the Taunton area, and drive a silver k11 March, then hi, I was the janky looking Micra with a roof rack on who was looking at your car

Usual post event work : oil & filter change, check NS CV joint, full bolt check. Plus: bled all brakes with RBF660 fluid, changed gearbox oil, repaired dent / hole from a pallet moment on last event, welded up hole in OS rear arch which was leading stress cracks, seamed welded inside rear arches, seamed welded other bits around boot hinges which had cracked allowing in water. Plus previous work on before which was repairing NS rear lights wiring, replacing DIP beam relay.

Also changed the oil & filter on the MGZR, plus a bit of rust prevention on the ZR.

Last free weekend before six weekends on the trot at events...

Next weekend, Targa Rally in the MGZR, driving and navving
Bank Holiday Weekend : Giving autosolo demo rides at World RX in the ZR
Following weekend : Giving autotest demo rides at Coventry Motorfest in the ZR
Following weekend : Navving in the Micra at Abingdon Stages.
Following weekend : Course car on East Anglian Classic in the ZR
Following weekend : Targa Rally in the MGZR, driving & navving

Busy times ahead!

After plenty of thought following the retirement of the current turbo engine which produced 200whp, I decided to pull the engine and box from the SuperS to embark on a Rev.2 turbo engine.

The head will be removed shortly to be cc'd and to pay a visit to the flow bench in order to aid in deriving a suitable camshaft profile. One of the high comp pistons will also be removed to send off for CMM, so we can spec up a different forged turbo piston.

Some flow bench time will also enable us to put definitive numbers into the equation which will aid in forming a realistic new power target. I'm quite disappointed in the amount of misinformation being spread around, particularly with regard to turbocharged setups and what isn't possible. It's therefore a side goal to put the naysayers firmly out to pasture and to provide some clarity to the Micra community.

If there's enough interest, I may consider making a blog of this build...

A blog would be amazing to see, please share it with us!

It is worth it whilst you have the space, and brace the front wishbone mounts to the bulkhead. I can send you pictures of what I have done to mine.

It's all fresh painted, so will stay as is. Thanks for the offer of the info though Matt :)

I'd build another shell if I was going to go that far with a full weld-in cage from custom cages, tie-in points through the bulkhead, tie-ins to the windscreen area etc.

Looks good! How does it feel to you? I personally love it! Would have liked the 60mm springs but settled with 35mm.
Feels great. The car has always been rattly so these make it worse, but that just means I need to spend more time fixing it.

Also I'm worried I'm going to concuss myself on the bootlid some night when I forgot how low it is. It's at eyebrow level now which is far less than ideal.

I've done it before. I reverse my car into a space with a path behind, so you stand higher than the car. I've come up from the boot and knocked my head a few times! Haha!!

Well, replaced my drivers door lock, that was easier than expected and the locks are only a fiver each! Cheap as chips!
Ordered one of these new fandangled LED reversing lights on ebay as they are supposed to be much brighter. We'll soon see when the it arrives in a few weeks from my favourite chiness suppliers.:D

I have led reverse lights, the type with the standard p21 bulb fitting on the bottom and honestly they're nothing special. Bar the colour there's basically no difference

Yesterday made and fitted a top brace , and today gave both braces a bit of a try out and they car feels pretty tight in the bends , and stiffer

Well only two months on (see HERE) I've had to replace both of the front side light bulbs! Does anyone know where I can get some bright LED T10 bulbs that last more than five minutes?
