Urgent help needed please

I am back again with another problem on my mother in laws car.

Since owning the car the engine management light has been on. Having just been to a garage to sort it out she was told the following...

Looking at this picture

The part with the two white screws, the plug that goes to that is not plugged in. The previous owner had a problem and rather than plug it in, he just rested it on the plug. If you plug it in the mech said the light will go out but you dont get any acceleration. It is not plugged in because it does not work. Being unplugged causes the engine management light to come on but also an increase in fuel consumption. The garage quoted her £400 to put right but my question is this...

What is that part? To replace, isa it as simple as unscrew the white screws and replace that part or is it replace the entire part that is attached, manifold by the looks of it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like the Mass Air Flow sensor. Yours looks like the replaceable type. Do a search on eBay .

yep thats the airflow sensor, there comon thing to go wrong on these, there £30 from ebay just unscrew it, pull it out and screw the new one in.

the garage has probably quoted for a whole new throttle body as in the older k11s the maf is part of it. alot of breakers and garages dont know that the sensor can be changed on the later throttle body.

Cheers guys, Just found the sensor on ebay £30. Without removing the sensor to check the part number i am hoping it is 0280127014 , for the following

Cheers buddy, just ordered one. That must have been unplugged for over a year. I'm suprised the car is still running. She always said it was heavy on fuel, never believed her
