Well my insane insurance quote of nearly a £1000 with a £300 excess means I may sell on the glanza. I can afford to pay it, but that's not the point.

Lowest quote I have so far is £921 with Sky Insurance.

In my opinion I should be paying around £400 - £600 when compaired to other TGTT members.

My claim for the crash is only having about £50-£100 effect on my policy and everything else is in my favour, other then living on the edge of Leicester.

Tried putting my mum on the policies too.

I maybe selling on if I can't get it down to where I think it should be.

£921!!!! :O
What do they think you are, a 17 year old boy racer? And you have a decent alarm, sounfds like someone is taking the p*** lol.

Have you tried A-plan, they usually get a good deal.

trying them now with lifesure and will be trying lots more before my insurance comes round.

It's not that I can't afford to pay it, but it's the principle and especially when you see other quotes of younger drivers, less experience, less no claims then you getting cheaper quotes on TGTT.COM

Kev

holy moly Kev!!

is that the cheapest you found?

yep sure is Pete.

It's a disgrace, how can a 27 year old with 7 years no claims be landed with a £1000 policy even for a 1.3 import turbo.

I'm seriously thinking of getting rid now, just when I've done the cambelt, 4 new tyres, suspension all finished and it's running sweet.

im with adrain flux get a discount wen been with tgtt. £800 fully comp with a 50 day ban(sp30) and 3points(sp30) on my licence, im 22 3 years no claims, cars parked on a drive, with cat 1 alarm.

Im with Admiral, i pay £506 Fully comp with all mods declared and 2 yrs NCD and 0 Points, 25 years young.

Renewal is in 2 months and i wont be going with admiral agin because there rip offs.
Just a small selection of better quotes fromt TGTT.COM GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Christ thats pricey!

Dare i ask whats next?.............

...............March st

lol no it would be a non import that's for sure

Thats a very rare import it`s a shame to have to sell it because of insurance quote. But it is alot of money taking in to consideration your age and ncb + excess

the following aren't helping, but don't explain the huge difference

1 SP30 - coming off in Jan, been on my license for nearly 4 years, doesn't really add any great amount to the policy.

1 Claim - Not at fault, but due to single car crash, marked at fault affecting policy by £50-£100 as advised by the companies I've been in touch with. No claims are protected.

postcode - edge of city

driveway - not in garage

put your mum as the main driver, and you named.

Shame though. Don't sell it coz of this tho. You'll regret it big time

Actually Ems you might just have solved it!

I would loose a years no claims, but would mean a massive saving and I have 7 years already and you don't loose your no claims as long as you don't do it again a second year running.

I think I will contact Sky insurance and see what I can do.

edit: Sky insurance are checking it with there under-writer.

Kev

and if you have a garage on your house say its kept in that....all the do, if they do check is see that the house has a garage facility!

I'm merely advising he should lower it, as it will save him money - regardless of insurance company. If he chooses to do so, that's down to him.

On what basis are you advising he lower it though? He probably put 10k because he does 10k! I'm declared for 20k, it probably doesn't make that much difference and with computerised MOTs now the mileage from one year to the next is stored each year, so I'd imagine its very easy to find out.

I wouldn't Kev, it's called fronting and it's illegal...

Do a quote and see what it says. Change the milage and watch it drop/raise depending on what figure you put in. I imagine with a car like that, the milage would make a significant difference.

Computerised milage takes the figure from your odometer. Mine says 35000 - not exactly true is it!

Almera GTi (grp 14) with 10,000 miles a year: £545 TPFT
Almera GTi (grp 14) with 20,000 miles a year: £565 TPFT

£20 for double the miles....

I'm sorry but there is no way I would ever even consider not being completely honest when putting insurance through.

What happens if your car gets broken into on the drive overnight and you state your car was locked in a garage overnight when doing your insurance.

What happens if you crash and you stated you do 5000k a year and in fact you do 10,000k.

You'll loose any chance of claiming that's what, not a great idea. Flux where very hot on my claim and got every single little small bit of information they could use in event of not paying out.

Kev

You would consider it if your mileage was 10,005 and the end of the previous band was 10,000, you could save £20 lol

Bit of a rip-off.

I paid £1k for my insurance last year on my new shape JDM ST205 Celica GT4 at 21 with 3 years NCB, no points or accidents and in a grade F area.

Absolutly nothing. That was my point! Your paying an extra for something that isn't checked, but anyway i applaud your honesty. I actually declare an accurate number of miles too, but i don't do that many anyway.

If you can't get the car insured as your mums, with you as a named driver, why don't you get the car changed over to her on the V5? at least then it's not illegal.

I would be interested to learn an insurance companies view on this. As I said previously, with a centralised MOT database these days I think it'd be crazy if the insurance companies DONT check this in the event of a claim.

Maybe Ollie from Sky can clarify this?

Adrian Flux wanted to know my mileage on my crash, you get a limited mileage decleration form when completing your insurance.

Obviously not all compaines operate the same when taking into consideration of limiting mileage, but flux are hot on this.

Kev

£898 is the my cheapest quote now, if I get the time I will run a load more quotes.

I should surely be able to get it down to around £800.

Just out of interest Kev what about all the people who swap tacos/ clocks wont this affect how they check your millage ?? say you change your clocks after a mot sayt it was 50k changes clocks which then state 83k and you crash what happens in this situation?? A bit contrivertial... best to be honest which Looks like Kev is

Broony

All Insurance companies are the same. I've been with 8 or 9 during my lifetime and basically they make it up as they go along. I've got 10 years no claims and got quoted £1000 for a £350 Micra, a V6 FTO which was more to insure than a Twin turbo RX7 and a Robin Reliant 850cc for £800...go figure...

Try getting a quote for a Ferrari and see what the difference is.....

They do make it up, you ask one day, then call the same company the next day and you'll get a different quote.

You shouldn't change your clocks with ones that are hugely different than yours, or pay to get them adjusted.

Well the glanza will be staying!!

Managed to get my quote down to £820 and I have a few more days yet to get it down lower!

Kev

Lifesure with a company called NIG, specialises in imports and have offered an excellent policy with many many benefits I didn't get with Flux.

I cancelled my policy with Flux yesterday and I really hope the higher power at be listens to what I said, most of which can't be repeated on this forum! lol I was warned the call was being recorded I replied "I certainly hope so"

My renewal with flux has really hurt my premium cost this year, basically I "should" be paying around £600-700 and that still imo is a little bit too much, however Flux issuing a £946 renewal means I have to do so much ringing around to get the quote down.

i.e one company will only beat the other by a few pounds, so starting with a stupidly high premium means it's very hard to get it down. Largest jump I had was £898 to £820 which I was shocked with, as most where only a few pounds.

Glad you got a semi-decent quote.

Sky have just quoted me £741 for a 1.3 Micra Turbo, fully comp with 'like for like' mod cover although I'm not sure if thats actually worth it (after your experience with Flux)....seems pretty good for a 22 y/o with 2yrs NCB.

You see that's what I don't get......

Your insuring a 1.3 turbo, probably similiar spec to a glanza.

5 years younger then me, only 2 years no claims

Even your quote with Sky is still cheaper than mine, your turbo work will be custom, mine is factory etc etc. All the parts for a glanza are basically off the shelf with toyota and if not, can be ordered in within a few weeks.

Insurance is such a pain in the ar#e!

Kev

Could it be down to the area you live in Kev? Do you know if it's generally higher to insure cars there, or is it the fact it's an import that's making it high?

I was going to say, its not an import....that can make all the difference. My insurance area is B, so the second best possible.

I think insurance has gone up this year overall anyway Kev. My renewal went up on the Golf from £650 to £720 this year (everything decalred). Needless to say I shopped around some more and ended up going with, guess who... Adrian Flux who provided me with the cheapest quote by far. (£550) That's with me being 22, 5 year NCB on a 1.8 Turbo - 150BHP. Not too bad I didn't think really. Glad you got it lower and are keeping it though, but from what I've seen it looks like everyone's insurance has increased.

Who were the actual insurers Kev? Most times it comes out as Highway and I know companies such as Flux don't train their staff properly and through ringing around several different companies I have had very very stupid quotes for the same car with the differences between quotes being in the order of double. Highways 'everyday' policy usually works out well on Glanzas, and is a lot lot less than if done on one of their import or modified policies. If you've tried that or some quotes have been done on that, then I can't offer anything else that will be of use. Hope you got/get it sorted :)

But yours isn't an imported glanza turbo lol. Ring somewhere up and get a quote for an equal comparison to Kev! would definitly be salt, vinegar & acid in the wounds if yours comes out cheaper
