Turbos???

i dream of having a turbo :)

but i am to sure how to go about it.

first what parts do you need and what are just recomended?
also i won't be able to install a turbo till i have the cash but are there bits i can get and fit while i'm waiting?

so as far as i know to have a turbo you NEED:

Turbo (duh)
intercooler
custom manifold
dump valve
bits of tubing

then an ECU upgrade
and new fuel rail, injectors and fuel pump?

and can i get the custom manifold and still run the car while i wait for the turbo or does it all have to be done in one big go?

also i have heard about greddy-e thingys and turbo timers also FSE??? any help?

thanks guys :)

Well if your running a low boost application you done really need an intercooler. For a very cheap set up you could use a turbo going straight to the tb without an intercooler. THen for extra fueling go for GA16DE injectors. You could probably run about 5 PSI ok but it would be 'lumpy'. Uprated injectors with a remap would be good and also pretty cheap and would see you better drivablity, power delivery and fuel consumption.

THe hardest parts of this set up is a manifold with a turbo flange on it and the oil feed for the turbo as i don't know where this comes from. Drill and tap the block maybe?

It's not the easiest thing to do, and btw you can pretty much just use any turbo, off a TD corsa or something, a turbo is a turbo after all. Just done get something silly o_O

:) ok but are the injectors needed??

i can get plenty of turbos, i have one already at home but i wasn't sure if it would work.

but i suppose because it's a custom pipe job anything will fit :)

but the turbo??? the one i have looks kinda big, i don't know what it is or where it came from but if i chuck it on will it hack it?? cos i've heard that if you have a big turbo it takes ages to spin up....

will this work? is it too mucky, it spins ok.

here is more info:

thanks guys and girls :)

no m8 the manifold for the turbo is completly different to a n/a manifold also good idea to upgrade the ignition aswell and maybe start playing with the internals...also good brakes is always good to have wen runnin a turbo

for expert advise fone rc developments these guys really know what there doing!!!

tel-08452307667

www.rcdevelopments.com

nice one :) i'll make a note,

i was going to sunny gti brakes when i get round to getting them off the one in the scrappy,

would the above turbo work? if i wanted to clean the inside is it ok to pour in petrol or something just to clean it up?

thanks,

not sure how to clean it m8,

rcdevelopments can fit a turbo to a micra for £3000 anything upto £10,000

and my m8 foned for a price for a manifold for his super s and the sed for custom made one wuld be £800 and he asked exactly the same question bout the turbo manifold and they sed its a totally diferent thing...

wonder what power gains it wuld have compaird to the janspeed!!!

i personally wuldent buy any turbo kit, if i had the money ide go straight to rcdevelopments they have turbo'd plenty of micra's including joanne's i think

yes most things need changing!

i foned a jap gearbox and clutch specialist for advise on getting a gearbox from another car to fit my super s and they simply sed just buy a gtir m8! and laffed

i didnt bother explianing that if i wanted one i wuld have bought one! and that i want to drive a micra! and to be able to ask for advise on modding it from as many places as possible she was very cleva about it
i think the micra looks alot better than the pulsar/sunny and if nissan put a 220bhp engine in the micra they would have outsold every car in its field

im not up on micra turbo systems

but you need the turbo
intercooler is optional but advised
dump valve thats just for the sound, all turbos have a dump valve aka BOV (blow off valve) or wastegate
then then tubes that take the boost from the turbo compressor to the air intakes
MBC (manual boost controler) with boost gauge

then when addind boost you obviously need a stronger engine
uprated cams help and a more meatier manifold and exhaust system a 2" straight through?
then more fuel needs to be added

allthough im probly talking a load of crap lol

Just get a HKS turbo kit. Everything you need is in it for £1300 shipped. All you need to do is grind a bit of the radiator mount as it's for a Cube.

HK11, isnt that the US based one? - i know its £1300, but since when was it £1300 shipped? surely youd need to pay tax etc? - or am i reading my dollars wrong? (lost the link neway)

And how do you know this? do you know someone who has bought one of these kits?

It from a quote from a Japanese company, HKS kit is £1100-1200 in Japan, i think £150 by sea or £450 by air. Yes import tax is low on car parts. They normally put a value of like £100 on the package. I ordered an Apexi N1 exhaust and the invoice was £40  HKS Japan said that this is not a direct "bolt on" kit for the k11 but as it's for exactly the same engine in the Nissan Cube you need to adjust some parts like here, it is better suited to a NCVT vehicle as all Cubes are auto you will need to upgrade the clutch if you use the kit on a manual.

Bracket modification

Im talking about this one.. the one at the top is the main sh!tstain one... thats about 1300... but i think the shipping will bring it to much more...

Do you ahve a link from the Jp site, however i think its much easier to deal with people who can speak our language... ;)

-obviously the middle one is the cheapest at about 800 quid, but i guess you could always just rig up an intercooler to how you wanted... (is that the only difference rd or can you see anymore big ones?)

For the 1300 shipped I think it was www.ooparts-international.co.jp
but I have heard horror stories about these overcharging and being quite rude tho. It was a special order from HKS with a standard Japanese sea express rate so any company will do the same deal within £100

Checkerflag are a great company and have had no problems.
Checkerflag

Takakaira Takakaira are great for small orders of small value and weight like air filters, pads, plugs leads etc

well, tbh i think the $1,500 is the best one to go for on the site i mentioned above, its a t15, so not too much there but at least i get the manifold if i wish to upgrade i guess..!
Im sure putting a IC into that, proberbly TMIC would be a piece of piss.. and for 700/800 quid i think thats a bargin... dependant on shipping costs of course...

Im abit warey of jap companies with the none english etc, esp when it comes to giving my green stuff away :p

Do you think its a decentkit?

- and do you feel because its for the march it will need much modification?

Yeah i'd go with that one if I wasn't going NA and daily driver:laugh:. Give them a mail, i'd be interesting to know how much shipped. Yeah the intercoooler would be a bitch, try and get a top mount off a starlet turbo.

Yeah I thought of a turbo  bit i'm keeping it NA now, just done GA15 throttle, ecu, intake and exhaust mods.

RC Developments have only carried out one turbo conversion on a micra and yes that's mine.

I doubt RC would carry out another turbo conversion for a micra. The cost has been unbelievable and there is still plenty of work to be carried out on mine.

The HKS bolt-on kit is listed for the 'cube' in Japan and will require modification to fit onto the cg13de, this was originally an option I looked into, but I wanted a minimum of 160bhp.

what the,,,,,,,,price OMG, id say pay a visit round a few scrapyards if you know what your doing shure you could set up the whole system for couple hundred quid, allthough bolt on seems alot easyer:laugh:

really? i foned rc myself and they sed to me the last one they did cost £7000 and had standard g-box and ecu

my m8 foned a few days later they sed they culd do it for£3000 and if they played with the internals culd be upto £10,000

sorry if im wrong but thats what the guy told me

That was the initial cost, another £4k+ has been spent on the engine/drivetrain to get Jo's car to it's current state. The only thing stopping it running 2 bar of boost now is the bottom end. A rebuilt bottom end will cost about £4k in parts alone if you want a billet crank aswell, or around £3k if you just go for rods and pistons.

Trust me, RC WILL NOT do another Micra, they've put more time into Jo's than we have ever been charged for. It was and still is a development project to them.

It's a real shame that the old MSC forum content was never bought over, as contained in that is pretty much all the hard work and research that Lowrider, Micra_Pete and me did into turbo'ing a CG13. So much good info lost :( So much ground being dug over again and again :(

thanks guys,

i don't want to do a half arsed turbo convertion so it looks like i'm going to have to wait until i have the money....

i'm thinking of going 2.0 primera anyway so I'm goin to wait and see if i can get the money,

Damn it think how amazing our cars would be if we had all the money we needed??

It need not be a half arsed turbo conversion. All you need to do is sort out the plan from the beginning and take it in stages. Everyone jumps to what turbo they should use when in reality thats a minor detail and can be delt with later. You need to start with things that are more vital to the over all project, i.e. fueling. For example change to an end fed fuel rail and use 200sx or gtir injectors with a piggy back ecu such as an E manage etc. If you do this and change the airflow meter and fuel pump the fuel system will be good for potentially over 300bhp, which is more than your ever likely to need with a 1.3 engine. however the car will still run without the turbo but will be ready for when you do. BTW this upgrade would probaby be around £6-700 to start you off.

Ed

thanks for that Ed, thats really useful info ;)

but i mean half arsed as in,

i put in a small turbo so i don't have to upgrade the engine parts etc,

if i'm going turbo i want to make sure i get the best setup rather than get the car turbo'd now with a poor 3 PSI and then put on a more hardcore setup later.

but i don't want to spend money on a turbo if i'm going to scrap it when i get an engine upgrade.

the real resons for all this is:

i have a sub and 15" alloy wheels which have slowed the car right down and i want to get it back up to speed.

and on my way to work i race this merc that always beats me when we get to this steep hill. so if i come along with a 2.0 turbo micra then he won't know what hit him.... not litarly hopfully :)

but at the mo 6k is about a year's wadges without expences!!! so it ain't happening any time soon

does anyone know what the difference is in a 0-60 with 15" wheels, and standard 13" with sum gud tyres?

how much quiker is it?

i think i lost a couple of seconds off my 0-60 but i had also installed a sub and an indcution kit so i can't say what difference the alloys made on their own..

BTW they were cheap ripspeed aloys so they weigh more than normal
